Topic Dog Boards / General / bath tap shower attachment
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 15.10.10 23:30 UTC
Hello everyone, my apologies if this sin't the right place to post this query. I am looking for a shower attachment to fit onto a bath mixer tap. Everything I've found to date is manufactured for a hot and cold tap, not a single tap--how aggravating is that! Can I really be the only person in the world without a hydrobath, hot and cold taps, or some other sane solution for bathing the dogs...calling in at the place that fitted the bathroom suite I was told that I could opt for a replacement mixer tap plus in built shower head, or a single valve wall mounted shower head--only £375 if you please!

I am sure I must be missing the obvious here--can someone please put us straight (not that I am in any danger of spending £375 on a new tap anytime soon)!!!!

We just went to B&Q and picked the CHEAPEST tap with shower attachment, fitted in existing holes, hubby changed it, no problems -I use it all the time for the dogs. £50 for the cheapest!

I'm also looking for one, not for the bath but for the kitchen sink which is a single mixer tap, this would make life a lot easier to bath a dog.
So I watch with interest on this thread.

suejaw, I have a similar situation in my kitchen.  I just bought a '2 tap job' from the £1 shop  and it was a very easy job to pull the second arm off and make it into a straight one tap model! :)
Not sure if the bath models are constructed in the same way?

I'm having a confused day and can't quite imagine what every one wants!
There is this from argos for two taps

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8329721/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+and+furniture%7C14417894/c_2/3%7C15701155%7CBathroom%7C14418043/c_3/4%7Ccat_14418043%7CMixer+showers%7C14418052.htm

or do you want something just for one tap? Maybe tie a knot in the other rubber tube :)

this says it fits onto a single a tap but looks just like the other one :s, weird.

Jay. Wash both of ours outside during the summer and have the same problem with the mono tap in the utility. Bought an attachment at B&Q (comes in various sizes depending on the size of your taps spout and it can be tightened), it then clicks on to the hose and we use the garden spray. If it didn't work they said we could take it back. Good luck.

Thanks everyone...I think we've either identified a gap in the market or else there is a very good but completely (to me) obscure reason why we don't have a cheapo solution that fits onto a mixer tap.

When I started trawling round a week or so ago the guy at B&Q showed me their cheapest solution (as per MarianneB)--I was reluctant to take off the faucet I have to replace it with something that doesn't 'go' with the rest of an expensive bathroom makeover. Their faucet and hand shower set that is closest to what we have was over £250, which I suppose is a deal better than the £375 the plumber specialists quoted for the matching single valve and wall mounted hand shower, but is still way more than I want to pay. This is the only bathroom in the house, so I wasn't keen to have a garden hose attachment either, I would like to have something more permanent.

I bought the Argos attachment (which read in the catalogue that you could use it for a single tap), but this still turned out to have two attachments...duly returned....*SIGH*...and so does the Amazon gizmo.

Pookin, if tying a knot in the other rubber tube works I would give it a go--has anyone tried this and/or has the blessed rubber thingy shot off the end of the faucet???

I have a roofed extension at the back of the kitchen but haven't really got space in our tiny back yard to install a dog tub without sacking the tumble dryer. At this rate I might have to think about that--certainly lifting and restraining dogs, bending down over them in the bathroom upstairs, then having all three go nuts racing round the house shaking and rolling everywhere (my bed is a favourite if they can get to it) is not an ideal solution. The next house I have must have a dog wet room :)

In the meantime any ideas gratefully received!

Spotted this and thought of you http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hairdressers-Single-Shampoo-Hose-Attachment/dp/B002SA0OJW/ref=pd_sim_sbs_kh_1

Think this is what you are looking for if I understand correctly.
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 17.10.10 16:37 UTC
thank you thank you thank you J. Hardcastle!!!!

this is from me, of course--I'm afraid my dogs will not be thanking you :)

LOL... no, I doubt any spaniel would be happy to be losing their hard earned stink and muck.

gives a whole new meaning to "earning a crust"

Let me know as i'm not sure a mixer tap in our kitchen sink is going to be too forceful or not with this..
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 17.10.10 22:47 UTC
Will do--I know the water pressure upstairs in our house is low so am not expecting the contraption to fly off...
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 24.10.10 15:06 UTC
Hi suejaw, the contraption has arrived and I have tested it on the bath faucet (as opposed to with the dog standing under it :). It works fine, so for the sake of £12 or thereabouts probably worth a go--you can always return it if it doesn't do the job for you!

Dog were standing at the bathroom door looking very suspicious and flighty, so I used it to wash my hair...mean or what!!!!
- By suejaw Date 24.10.10 15:08 UTC
Ooh thanks, how long is the piping? I need it to attach to the kitchen sink and then go out the window onto the patio..
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 24.10.10 15:16 UTC
I have just measured it at 1.6m, or about 5'3" in old money :)

Happy spraying!
- By suejaw Date 24.10.10 15:19 UTC
Thats not bad, will go and order myself one then..:-)

Happy spraying indeed, not sure the dogs will enjoy it mind.. lol
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 24.10.10 15:33 UTC
not sure the dogs will enjoy it

last time I had to carry Bean into the bathroom, although he is very good once in the bath; Jack came along because he could see someone else was getting "the treatment" (and he does a great mother hen job looking anxious and reassuring at the same time). Diesel did his weasel trick and vanished completely.
- By suejaw Date 24.10.10 21:23 UTC
I have one who quite likes it really when he's in, the other is a nightmare and has jumped out covered in suds, refusing to get back in again, funny now when I think about it, was not amused at the time..

This is what I actually need, after much trawling, so will be ordering that and getting a spray attachment for the hosepipe. We have a tray for the dogs to stand in too :-)
- By Lacy Date 24.10.10 21:33 UTC
Suejaw.
Can you please let me know how you get on with the tap attachment, have one from B&Q that tightens with a band around the tap spout - keeps flying off with the presure of water - OH not amused as he gets tap duty while I get to wash dogs. The one you have found looks alot more secure! Best wishes, Lacy

Hi Lacy,

Here are a few more which maybe of interest too

Hi Suejaw.

Many thanks, but looking through them the one you have chosen looks to be the same as I would get, happy washing and let me know if it works. Much better as it screws down on the tap rather than around it. But with the weather closing in think it will be back to using the bath, a bit too cool outside even with warm water. Especialy when you have to leave shampoo on for sometime.
- By suejaw Date 24.10.10 21:46 UTC
Hmm, yup know that feeling, even though dogs like, no love the cold weather, being soaking wet through is not nice.
Going to try it and see what happens, though i've been told that as our tap leaks it may cause a larger leakage until the washers are changed.
- By Justsurfing [gb] Date 03.11.11 07:01 UTC
We use a thermostatic mixer valve to wash the dogs outside, this mixer valve allows us to mix the water to the outside tap, so we can wash the dogs all year round outside without worry of being cold. We got ours from Chrome Taps and Showers, here is the link: http://www.chrome-tapshower.co.uk/15mm-thermostatic-mixer-valve-ac406 this cost us £30 to fit, we can`t plum so had to call a plumber.

If you have to wash your dogs in the bath, then i would advise using a douche shower again here is the link: http://www.chrome-tapshower.co.uk/bathroom-showers/douche-shower-kits or if you want the shower mixer tap stye then here is link: http://www.chrome-tapshower.co.uk/bathroom-mixer-taps/bath-taps/bath-shower-mixer-taps

I hope i have helped in some small way, these items work for us.
