Is it just me? or will anyone else admit to it.

I find at this time of year I walk the dog and then realise when I get home that I have got at least 6/8 'biggest and best' conkers tucked into a pocket.

For goodness sake - I am retired, have no small kids around and haven't played conkers for at least ** years.   Why are they so tempting to pick up :-D
Chris

aaah........second childhood perhaps :-D

I do this too :-) There aren't many Horse chestnut trees around here so finding conkers was really exciting when we were kids and I find I still pick them up and get excited peeling them to see how big the conker inside is. :-D I think i'm entering my second childhood (or never left the first)

Now what do you do with them when you get home though?

Conkers are supposed to deter spiders ....don't know how - unless you chuck them at the wee beasties!

Nor here it seems either.. Came across a tree the other week and picked up loads of Conkers and placed them in the rooms which had the BIG spiders in them, guess what, within 2 days they'd gone, all of em!! :-)

Me too.. I just cant resist a lovely shining conker... I've stopped climbing trees to get them now though!!

They are a nightmare to a cyclist mind ;-)

Is that because they fall on your head or because you bump over them? :-)

No your not alone, every year I come back with pockets full of them. OH gets mad at me, end up with containers by the door or outside, just a shame that once brought in they start to dry out.

Shiny, gorgeous colour, lovely to handle - What's not to love?

Says I who still has one stashed in her bag from years ago :-D

Just dyed my hair the same colour :D

Is there any way or any kind of varnish that can preserve the colour of a newly-opened conker for ever?
So plump and shiny and all shades from ginger to copper and chocolate and...well... chestnut! :)

This reminds me of my Mum, not conkers but acorns! Mum and her Mum always had to have an acorn in their purse to bring good fortune. I still look for them now, even though I'm nearly 40 and Mum passed away 2 years ago. The ones still in their cups were the best!

Its just fun and if you keep some in the fireplace the old wives tale say's you have no spiders!! I played conkers when wearing my Nan's bracelet and I dented it, it went through WWll and I had it for 5 minutes and dented it, I was about 40 at the time.

Garnier - you have to choose the right colour for your own hair colour which will affect the result - but they make a great range of reds :-D

There was an old lady conkering on the green outside my house this morning she wanted conkers for a display at her local WI this lady is ninety two years old so I suppose you are never too old to look for good conkers!
Sent my hubby out to help her a mere slip of a boy he,s only sixty six!
