Anyone around? My boy is 4 1/2 months old & I've just noticed that he has a gunky, sticky eye. I've boiled some water & let it cool & bathed it with a cotton wool ball. Is there anything else I can do? My friend was here today & her G/S has conjunctivitus :( It didn't occur to me to keep my boy away, as I assumed she'd wash her hands. Now I'm panicking :( My vet has a walk in clinic tomorrow 9 - 12, so I'll take him if its no better. Just wondering if anyone has any tips. Thanks xx

Just an update....no more gunk yet, but I've bathing the eye through the night. He's zonked out now, so I'll be able to tell better when he wakes up, cos if theres any sticky mess, it'll be vets at 9am xx I'm wondering if he's got a chill in it, cos he sleeps in the weirdest places....near doors, windows etc.

Could be almost anything but if worried take him to the vet if only to give yourself relief.

I admire your dedication, a gungy eye wouldn't keep me up all night :-)  If you're worried then a trip to the vets. I keep a tube of (human) eye ointment in the fridge and any gunky eyes have that squirted into them, doesn't normally need more than 2 applications.

Weak salt water, 1 tsp salt to a pint of water. If it's no better in a day or two you should probably pop to the vet in case it's a touch of conjunctivitis. Have you got other dogs? Henry used to get a sore eye occasionally if Ellie had jumped up and bashed him by mistake, he only once needed vet treatment for it though.

I keep Homeopathic "Euphrasia Officinalis" in my first aid cupboard for eye problems/injuries

I have it in the Mother Tincture....and use 5 drops to an eggcup full of cool boiled water to bathe the eye area with. (The Mother Tincture has to be diluted so I always try it on my own eye first to make sure it doesn't sting) and I also keep "Euphrasia Off" in the soft tablet form at 30c....to give internally by placing tablets under the lip.

It works a treat :)

It can be purchased from www.helios.co.uk and orders before 12pm (under 6 items) are next day delivery

More info about Homeopathic Euphrasia can be found here http://abchomeopathy.com/r.php/Euphr

Depends on the colour of the gunk in his eyes tbh, anything but clear i'd be taking him to the vets. Eyes are not something i'd mess with and try my own remedies.

Well I finally crawled into bed about 4am. Got up this morning & not a sign of anything! :) I'll be keeping a close eye on him for a few days, but for now, all is fine. xx Thanks for the replies :)
