Hi after a long dsicussion with a breeder we decided to leave my bitch with the stud. I took her at day 8 and nothing at all is happening so I think I took her too early. How many times should she tie? As I was thought to collect after the first time.

Would it be best to leave her or bring her home and take her back in a few days,

p.s she suffers with seperation axnicity

although she seems to be getting on well and is eating and drinking and playing just looking out the window for cars to go past to see if its me.

It depends on what you have agreed with the stud owner, we dont leave our bitches at the studs but many other people do, Id expect 1 tie on consecutive days so 2 in total.

We were disparate to use a certain stud dog and he was getting on in years so it was agreed that if she missed the next time she was to stay at the kennel but that was an agreement between both of us.

I often have bitches to stay, and, as it's such a small breed, I take them to bed with me.  I've had bitches here that came on day 8, but took 10 days to be ready!  I don't charge for keeping them, so time isn't an issue.

With my breed, I often find that the bitch is more eager to mate when staying here, than when being watched by the owner.  I've only ever had problems with one bitch, and she wasn't used to living in the house, so pined for her kennel mates.

Bitches that live in the house, and are used to being fussed, don't seem to mind that it's me fussing them instead of their owners.  Although I've had people say that their bitch just won't settle with a stranger, I have found them perfectly ok once the owner has left.

The stud dog owner has the benefit of the dogs instinct, and they are very good at knowing when the bitch is ready!  :-)

I allow as many ties as the bitch will stand for.  Once a day, so not alternate days like most.

bigger breed but same experience, the more natural things are the happier the bitch and dog.

Interestingly when I have had bitches come to stay to be mated by the stud dogs I have handled none have missed.

Had the odd miss myself but luckily none of the couples I have overseen for others have.

I left my bitch with the stud dog owner at her last season and she brought herself out of season.  I went away on holiday at around day 3 so she was staying at my parents for a week then they were to drop her off at the stud dogs house but when she got there, she was not in season any longer.  She was not bleeding and the stud couldn't care less about her.  She has now came back in 4 months later and I brought the stud to her this time and we had 2 successful matings.  I wouldn't leave my girl as she obviously worries about separation more than I realised.

I wouldn't assume that, I have had a false starts to seasons for them to stop and start again soem time later.  This was with them not going anywhere and not being mated.

Ditto!

But, at the time, I didn't realise that this had happened until Barbara went into detail about split seasons.
