I recently bought a cocker spaniel bitch, in july this year.  When i collected her the man who sold her said he had applied for kc papers and would send them on.  I know its nieve but i totally trusted him.  I have a two year old spaniel and have had two spaniels previously which i have lost to old age, so i should have known better.  I have phoned three times and they keep saying they are waiting for the papers to come although i know deep down there are no papers.  She is a beautiful, great natured little pup and i wouldnt part with her for the world as i only wanted a pet and dont want to show her.  Any advice what i can do, i threatened to take her back in a couple of days if they didnt get back to me.

If she was advertised anywhere as KC registered then you would have a case under Trading Standards, and they are very helpful.

Were the pups advertised as from health tested parents etc.

This would at least stop them pulling the wool over others eyes and probably entitle you to a refund as unregistered pups are usually cheaper.

If it just says registration applied for, I guess they'd get away with it. :( It could even be true, they applied but were refused - could be somebody who has bought a bitch that is endorsed not for breeding.

For anyone reading this, you usually get the KC reg papers through within a week or so after having applied, so they would normally have arrived in plenty of time before pups are ready to be sold.

Worth posting on "cockers on line" at least you can threaten him with bad press.

You could ring the KC and ask where your papers are, then give his details for not getting them.

And threaten him with what's been said with the above.

not sure the kc will help under the data protection act,

i am sure someone on this board had the same problem a while ago and the kc where
very unhelpful they said they cold only discuss the kc paperwork with the breeder

They can confirm though if a litter has been regsitered at all.  If you have the dams name.
