Every bitch is not the same.  There is no text book day to mate a bitch.  Some will ovulate on day 8, others on day 18.  I don't know where the idea of day 10 comes from. 

As for bleeding, my girls often bleed straight through, during mating, and continue to the end of a normal season.  And still get pregnant.  It just isn't true that you can't mate a bitch until she has stopped bleeding.  You mate them when they're ovulating.

If only every bitch was the same. I have a very strange one that insists on ovulating on day 5!!!!!!!

and I have a strange one that ovulates day 19/20 LOL. On day 10 she would be saying 'no thank you very much'

We're even stranger then at day 27 :-)

I think the late ones are less trouble than the unusually early ones, especially if you don't own a male dog yourself to give you a clue.

Most of us would not be trying to travel to a stud dog before day 10 and if we trust the dog would just keep trying until 'The man from Delmonte, says yes'.

The early ovulater is a much more problematic animal as we may not be aware and check for this until a few failed attempts at getting her mated and more usual times.

i had one girl who had her first litter from a day 11 mating and her last one from a day 20 mating so can differ from season to season in the same bitch too, for me the best guide is always the dogs.

My girl was mated day 9, took her back day 11 and she did not want to know.

Do not take this as a criticism but an observation: Why is there the need to mate this bitch this season? As others have pointed out you do not seem 100% ready for this ( from what has been posted) I take it that all the health tests required for stud dog and dam are up to date and the results are satisfactory?

I'm guided by my dogs I had a bitch mated on day 3 and 4 thanks to his 'advice' and she had a lovely litter of 7 !!
