I have a friend whose dog has had a really bad cough for nearly 2 years. At first they were told that her lungs were realy bad and that her heart was enlarged. She has been on medication all of this time.

At long last one of the vets said that he would do further tests x-rays etc. and now they say that it is good news as it's an allergy, but they don't know to what!! Does anybody have a clue on what this could be and have you ever heard of anything like this before? Oh and there's nothing wrong with her heart.

Your help wd. be greatly received.

Thanks.
Diane

Hi Diane, don`t really know but could it be allergy to any other animals or asthma? My Sweepy had a cough a couple of yrs ago, not like KC. First vet tested by mucus taken from lungs & it was infection from different bacteria. Antibiotics didn`t cure it so took her to another vet & they tested her again & gave stronger ab`s & after few wks it went. Took about 4/5mths all together. Not much help really, sorry.

Hi Diane, Labrador. I know ecoli was one of them but can`t remember the other two bacteria at the mo.

PS. Just thought I`d tell you, the lab test found 3 different strains of bacteria & I think the vet wasn`t surprised about the ecoli, but it was the 3 of them together. Also they thought her heart at first but that was fine.
