Thought I'd ask what people have held onto from childhood that they still have?

I did a cleaning of our bedroom and bought big plastic bins to put stuff in, the kids each have one from stuff they gave us from being in school- its a memory bin lol and I have one thats mine and have all sort of things I collect:

Toys, Stickers and iron ons you would get out of chip bags and cereal boxes that are still in thier original wrapper never opened. I do have some stickers I did open and stuck them all in a photo album  before I decided to keep them in their package.

The lil toys you would get from McDonalds- fast food places- never opened.

When I had kids I would give them the doubles- I no mean mommy but they just ended up at the bottom of the toy box anyhow lol

I still have my 3 barbie horses, 2 stuffed horses that lay on their side, a lamb and my walking doll. The walking doll is in the best shape ( I let my kids play with her when they were lil and they fought over her and banged her against the wall so I said No more and put her away) lol I use to have cabbage patch kids not sure what happened to them and also munchi chi's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od3cNTl40VI  oooh the memories :-)

My Mum has kept my Sindy doll, and my sisters Tressie doll whose hair came out of a hole to make it longer. I've got records (45's & LP's), an old school report and a project I did on fashion. Very 60's!

My Mum kept my big doll - she was a "walking, crying doll", from the late 50's, and I jsut kept on keeping her, she was wrapped up and bunged in the spare room, then after I moved put in the storage unit.   When I eventually moved everything back home she came too, my nephew took one look at her and was seriously freaked out, to the pint he said he could not sleep in the same house as the doll!  I was selling some stuff on ebay at the time so put her on too, and ended up with a bit of a bidding war form all over hte world (people in Australia, Canada and S. Africa were bidding as well as UK), she ended up going for over £160, even though she was in "played with condition".  I used to collect model horses, had dozens of them, ranging from the Britains Riding School and show jumping sets, to some lovely Beswicks, although I am ashamed to admit now that my favourite was a largeish plastic palamino form Woolworths (an ornament not a toy).  No idea where most of them went, but the Beswicks moved home wiht me several times till my partner and I parted ways and I left my collection of Beswicks with his, it seemed a shame to part them.  Don't know if books count, but from the hundreds of kids books I had I hung on to one, called "The Tall Book of Make Believe", which had the most wonderful illustrations, and some gorgeous poems.  My sister was always trying to get her hands on it, and it once disapperared for a longish while - eventually found she had kidnapped it!  (We were both grown up by this time)  Have eventually passed it on to my niece, and hope it stays as a family heirloom.

Heres a blast from the past. Remember when tea used to have little collectable cards in (flowers, butterflies, sports etc)  and you could get albums to stick them in. We still have those.
In one cupboard I have my sons collectables from his childhood, loads and loads of plastic dinosaurs. Getting in the way a bit but I won't throw them out.

what people have held onto from childhood that they still have?

fossils and archaeological artefacts

Quite a trick since we moved several times over five continents and we weren't able to take much when we went. Still, I remember going to meet my mother at the airport, holding my baby brother's hand (he was only just able to walk) and carrying a very large and carefully wrapped antique vase, so clearly my priorities were shaped by my parents :)

I remember when you got lil figurines in Red Rose Tea- I think I still have some of those laying around, got them from my mom when I was lil and added them to my farm animals lol

I even collect the lil gifts you get when you buy alcohol- bobble heads, wine spouts, little helmet with ear phones ect- guess I am a packratt when it comes to that and all still in the original wrapper never opened.

I've got my teddy bear that was my christening present, he sits by my bed. Also have quite a few 'childrens books' eg Enid Blyton, and loads of knick knacks I've collected over the years. And a large picture with horses on which was the first impulse buy I made when allowed out by myself with money!

I've got all my christening presents still wrapped up in paper.
I had teddy bears from when I was very young. There are also some Beatrix Potter china laying about. Loads of books which I need to stick on ebay.

My first teddy bear - but my Mother is a monster hoarder so she has loads of my things in her attic.  Do I want it at home with me?  Nah thanks all the same lol

When our elderly neighbour moved out,(1988) he gave my kids boxes of those cards all in albums. The kids loved them. Son keeps saying now, 22 years on ,he will put them on ebay.

Teeth, I used to put my milk teeth as they dropped out under the pillow as a kid for the tooth fairy to leave me 50p under my pillow, my mum still as them. I think she's thinking of keeping them for herself, as dentures when she needs 'em, see if the dentist can knock her up a set, pay back for all them 50ps.:)

I imagine, Bilbo, that some of them would be worth a bit now. We have a REALLY ancient one, with kings and queens in. I hasten to add that it was my mother that collected these cards (I'm not that old, quite)

I also have a few teeth stashed away. Puppy ones from my dogs over the years as they dropped out.

Ive kept diaries from when I was a teen up until about 2004. I used to write in it everyday and they are great when you read them back. Every year I try to start a new one but I just dont have the motivation I had back then.

Ditto diaries I had my babies teeth but when we were burgled they emptied my jewlrey box into a pillow case and scarpered, so they must have had a surprise with the teeth!!

I have my Mum's chimp toy it must be nearly 80 now. And Im sorry to say my pony tail, I used to sit on my hair, it was cut off when I went to boarding school and Mum kept it.

My first mothers day cards wrer also stolen, thats what hurt the most the things that really ment the world to me were worthless (filling up again now!!!) Anyway, I still have all my photo albums so I didnt lose everything.
