Hope thread is in right section i'm trying to find out where I can have my staff pup tested for coat colours she holds for future breeding if all goes well as well as the patterns like pied,brindle etc
I've found website for vetgen but am not sure what test I need as would love to breed pieds so what to know what colour would be good to put her to as well as conformation temperment and anything in between if any one understands what i'm trying to get at can any one point me in the rght place (links) sorry if I haven't made it clear sorry am still learning

i have use vetgen over the pass11 years
it just the colour dna you want i think there was  a drop down on listed dogs that can be done on the web site

Thanks i've looked on it again and I think i've found the one I want which is dna chromagene coat colour testing for staffs would this be the right one to find out patterns ie pieds as well as colours

You could try the Laboklin website to see if they offer what you are looking for. They are based in Manchester. I have found them very open to discussion and giving advice before a test is done.

Not forgetting of course that Staffords cannot actually be registered as 'pied' or 'skewbald' (although many of us recognise that description best), only "Red, fawn, white, black or blue, or any one of these colours with white. Any shade of brindle or any shade of brindle with white."
From what I understand, this is hopefully going to be amended soon, so that white can be listed as the predominant colour, as currently that isn't the case.

Of course (hope this goes without saying, but I'll say it anway ;)) health testing & conformation, etc is by far, more important than breeding for colour  :)

Has anybody else used this Manchester company?  Just down the road from me, seems to do my breeds test for a lot blooming less than I paid for the American company!!  Think I will get in touch with them and test my youngest there, it's a price that's half the cost that I paid to have Calida done.

I understand what you are saying and its not just about colours I know that but am interested in the fact that in her litter there was pieds, red and whites as well as a brindle so was wondering what is the dominant colour as have done research in her generation as being solid reds,whites,red and whites,blacks and brindles it fasinates(Sp) me how it all works also she has had a few grand parents have been black and white.
conformation,temperment is first and foremost and will be all times even if I do decide to breed which is to early to tell and may never even happen.

But this topic interest me some what and will be attending seminars on all aspects of breeding
And care as want to learn to be the best of what I can to help with the future generation of our beloved staffords

Hi Diane and Donna,

I use Laboklin a lot as I do the testing for MDR1 in the Aussie and hold a clinic at shows or Aussie events... Mansour has never been anything but helpful to me sending me out free swabs and paperwork etc every time he knows I will be holding a testing session.

Results are quick, can't speak for other tests but have no problems with Laboklin what so ever...

Yes?   And?

The swab can be posted and their turnaround is very quick.

I've sent them an e-mail so will see what they say.  Just worries me that someone once commented that they sent DNA's of dogs to two different companies and got different results.
