Topic Dog Boards / General / Decent Pub in Stafford for grub any suggestions
- By Dukedog Date 08.10.10 17:54 UTC
I've booked myself a room in a local hotel Saturday 30/10/10, but was looking for recommendations for a nice pub in Stafford itself that serves good grub. I've not been to Stafford before so any suggestions are welcome.
A bonus would be if there was a games room with pool table if any chance, so I could beat a few locals.
And I could stretch to a few sherbets if anyone is there, for the recommendation like.

Cheers.

Of course Stafford has pubs, just a few. Just googled a few so will have a walk round on the Sat eve, possibly do a pub crawl by meself, unless I find any other revellers up for a good night. How much do Taxis cost these days? :)

At the show ground there is a nice cafe and restaurant with reasonably priced food compared to a lot of venues.  There is a shop with icecream and locally made meat and fruit pies.  Also bars.

I haven't used any pubs in Stafford (too far for a pub crawl-then again) however I have used this website before and found it's recommendations useful.

if we go anywhere we don't  know, we always head to a weatherspoons as they are safe and clean and not to expensive. and if your on your own you can sit at the bar and talk to the locals that are in there. some been in since 9am lol

Thats the problem with them Lea.. hehe...
Nearly every town centre has them and you know to find them as the old drunks are standing outside smoking their rollies :-)

lol yes. but a good place to find another pub as well. :) if you find the guy with the tankard you know he is a local that has the glass there especially for him, he would be able to tell you where to go, where to avoid, where to eat etc. lol :)

Stafford is full of Uni students....So I should imagine a pub crawl would be fun :o)

Sounds like my hubby, our local is a 'spoons'  I always have 'tea and teacakes' for £1.49

I was thinking through the day.  I don't know if they open late as people do camp at the show?

Im not sure of the pub name but I think its saracons head or something like that.

Come out the Showground turn right and just follow that road for a mile or so (you cant go wrong)
keep going down the hill and then on your right is a big house/hall keep going and then on your right is a pub (white pub)
that does nice meals and was very friendly.

If you want to take the dogs there is another pub further down (The Ash Tree) and you can sit outside watch the barges and the dogs are welcome outside.
I can get a post code for you if you decide that one.

Thank you for the tip, I have no dogs with me, so I shall give this one a try, sound easy enough to find.
