Hi Guys,

My lad has qualified for Crufts 2011, I am hopeing my 12 yr old daughter will qualify in junior handling at the next open show we attend (I have everything crossed, including the dog's paws, LOL).

My question is, as I am taking my daughter to Crufts with me, as it will be a day for us to treasure, (and yes I have an autherised day off from her school), if she does'nt qualify to handle him in JH, do I need to buy her an entry tickett as a visitor?

Hi Donna,

Is she a member of the YKC - if not I would recommend she joins anyway as they get a lot of information.

If she qualifies she will need to join anyway - but not til January 2011.

One of the benefits of being a member is free entry to Discover Dogs and Crufts!  They will send a letter for you to apply for tickets.

I have one daughter qualified and hoping maybe my other daughter will qualify but the older age group has some fantastic handlers in it! and being only YKC classes and first place only its pretty tough!

Junior handling is very very tough, especially when your up against the best in country and handlers with way way more experienced than not only my daughter but myself as well, we have alot to learn, (We only started showing a year a go) I find we pick up little things each time we go out, which helps the learning process, which is great.

Well done to your daughter that has already qualified for Crufts, and I wish your other daughter all the best in also qualifying too.

Good luck with the Junior handling qualification.  Sadly we have run out of shows for my daughter to qualify at without travelling too far (maybe one but question over whether it is a recognised qualifier at the moment).  We've only been showing for 2 years too so it is an uphill learning curve!  Although DD often gets in the top 3 in the Richmond qualifiers, winning the YKC handling proves to be elusive so far and its the last chance at the YKC Stakes tomorrow too.  The Gundog 12 - 16 age group is enormous though as we saw by the numbers at Richmond.  Ever wished you'd chosen a different breed!

You've already had the answer about the YKC so she'll have a pass for the whole 4 days. Last year my DD was able to handle someone elses dog in the breed class for experience and this is the first year we have qualified our own dog too so she will handle him this time.  She will still need a ticket for the main arena if she intends to see the BIS on Sunday night though.

I took my 7 year old dd this year, on her YKC ticket.  She hadn't qualified for handling but she handled my bitch in the Gamekeeper's class & thoroughly enjoyed her day.

I was telling my daughter, if she does'nt qualify in JH, I will enter her in a class at Crufts so she can handle our boy on the day, I can't wait to see how she does, ( even though I have to hide so my lad can't see me, as I know I will distract him LOL).
