hi can anyone help me there is a man on preloved selling a lgp he has sent me photoes of her she is 8mths old and asking £100 as i think in one photo she looks more like a staffyx
as we are looking to rehome a pointer we have always had gsps but with this one i an not sure he says he has no papers to her as his auntie who had her passed he know has to rehome her
any advise please

If you want a long-haired pointer would you be happy paying £100 for a staffy cross? If not, don't take it any further.

Have a look on the GLP club site: http://www.german-longhaired-pointer.org.uk/theglp.htm

Personally I wouldnt touch a puppy/dog from the website your talking about, if it seems too cheap to be true then it probably is!

There are a great many scams on such sites; puppies being advertised for ridiculously low prices or even "free". These puppies do not exist. You are asked to send a "handling fee" and someone agrees to meet you with the puppy. When you get there, the puppy is "unwell" and will be delivered to you later, after you have handed over the money. Many of these originate in Camaroon or such like and the puppies do not exist. You never see your money again, or a puppy. Whatever breed you want, source a responsible breeder through the breed club. Caveat Emptor. A decent puppy is worth paying decent money for.

I have had a look at the advert you are talking about and the dog in the picture looks brindle in colour. Do GLP's come in brindle?

CC,
Taken from the breed club website, the answer is as follows:
Coats can be solid brown, brown with white markings especially on chest and feet, white with brown markings or roan (white with numerous flecks and small and large brown patches.)

I think the OP, if they are looking to rescue, then contact the breed club rescue's..

I would say it's a scam.  THere was an advert for SWD's for £150 on the internet not long ago, person was in Ireland and photo's were of dogs from Europe.  It tooks ages for the website to remove the ad.

Same sort of ads with our breed, story is always that pups needs homing due to ill health or some such of a relative.

We are such a small breed that often it is easy to recognise lifted photos.

Why not get in contact with the respective breed club and ask if there is a rescue that they are affiliated with or in some cases help run as is the case in our breed, you will be helping out a dog in need getting the pointer you want and would also have a support network if needed, by people who care and know about the pointers.

P.S Seen the add and didnt like, look at the backgrounds of the images :(

have tried gsprecue uk several times but no luck we have had pointers for 13yrs so we know the breed well, we have had 2 pointers but lost our remaning one in august this year so we will just keep on looking.we miss them so much to us they are a special breed.

The ad does say he doesn't know if she's "a full breed" -probably just got a cheap puppy somewhere, or from the local stray kennels, and decided she looked like one breed -so many people do. It seems these days nobody is happy to have a crossbreed or mongrel, they have to decide on a breed for every dog. I get so many e-mails from people with rescue dogs saying they are sure they have a Malinois and could I look at some photos and confirm. So far none have even been anywhere near anything but a mongrel.

Poor girl, I hope she finds a lovely forever home... whatever she is.

I agree with others here, she looks nothing like a SLP.

I too saw the ad and must say they could have found a more flattering place to photograph her than in some muddy corner of a garden. I wonder if she even lives in the house, or (as in one of the photo's) she is tied up outside...?

So if this family are now trying to rehome her after she got past the "cute" stage, did they not realise she would be a large dog and need to be taken for walks?? I really do despair, what's wrong with people?? Large or small, they still need to be taken out for walks, what kind of reason is that to be getting rid?

Grrrr!!!

OMG no no no no no I wouldnt go anywhere near this dog unless you want a cross breed, judging by the pics alone I would guess it maybe has some rottie in there from the muzzle. poor thing also looks very depressed, I wouldnt be surprised if it has lived outside in the mud and mess all its short life! IMHO.

if i was you i would send a pick to the kimmax kennel, she is well known in the breed and is one of the best, she would be able to tell you if it is a pointer
