Hi ali23, I don't know if you have seen the other 'colitis' thread were I was asking for advice for one of my boys.
He has been on Royal Canin Intestinal Low Fat dry food with a little Canikur paste (paste is for the first week only) and he has been great so far. Maybe this food would be worth a try?
Looking back, I think he may have a problem with chicken too but someone else mentioned that sometimes chicken is plumped up with lactose so maybe lactose is the problem?
He has'nt had any treats this week but last night he had some white fish cooked in the oven put through his dinner and loved it! His pooh was fine this morning.
Hope your boy is feeling better soon.

Hi Ali
Sorry to hear of your problems again. I give Bella a half tablet of Buscopan (IBS relief) when she is in obvious pain with the cramps and it does seem to help her. Yes, I have often used kaolin and Morphine over the years with my Dobes for upset guts with good results. I do think Bella is sensitive to chicken.
Hope you sort him soon.

Hi there - thanks for the pointer to the new Colitis thread - things seem to be ok here today - he has eaten some of his stinky wet NAturediet food but does not seem to want his burns dry stuff - however a James Wellbeloved fishy treat went down ok.
I think I will keep him the same for a few weeks then when we run out of treats I will cut those out and see if we get a difference in his garden presents !!
thanks for the comments guys - as always there are some little gems of help on this forum

Hi, have been reading about your problem, we have the same sort of problems with our boy Buddy
He has had pancreatitis it still shows its self, bloody poo and vomit with blood in it when he scavanges out on walks, get yours tested. Its managable. Very low fat food, no treats except chicken (fat/skin removed) tree barks powder a god send as is tagamet. Its so very painfull and the only cure is diet .I use burns dried and nature diet now and took about 3 months to wean him off the Hills I/D. Ask your vet try the hills.I hope this helps and you dog gets better . Buddy had another bout yesterday. ok today though thanks to a very small tea last night with tree barks. I was sure he stole food over the park the day before.
good luck

Hi there - update on Barney for all you owners out there who are stalking your dogs in the garden !!!
He has been having little episodes every couple of weeks of not eating, squeeking tummy, small puke followed by a mucous and bloody poo then after a couple of hours he is fine and eats ok.
However last few days we have had some horrid tarry black poos - so we went back to the vet last night and we think his yellow Sulphasalazine tablets may have aggravated his tummy and caused a bleed higher up. so we have stopped the yellow pills to see what happens for a couple of weeks.
Funnily my friend is a GP surgery Practice nurse and she has read about the yellow pills doing that to humans !!
Vet has also advised getting some pure bran to add to his food to help things move through !!
He seems ok today and has eaten breakfast so things are looking ok.
I also talked to the Vet about giving him some Milk of Magnesia when he has the squeeks and he reckons it is worth a try to make things a little less uncomfortable for him.
speak soon and love to all the furry ones out there !!

Hi we seem to be doing really well here - he is still off his yellow Sulphasalazine tablets and everything coming out as garden pressies is fine !! wahey !!
The only thing we are getting is the odd day of not eating and then some grass eating followed by a bit of white frothy vomit - he did it last thurs here and then yesterday at my dads- - however give it a few hours and he eats ok.
There does seem to be a little bit of blood in with the vomit - it seems really 'snotty' type vomit - sorry about he description !!
Any thoughts from anyone ?

Hi - thought I would post a little update here on how Barney is doing with his Colitis - We seem to be going longer now between bad days - he had a real monster episode about 3 weeks ago - lots of blood and clearly in pain so I whizzed him to the vet and one injection later and he was back to normal and eating by bedtime !!
We had gone three weeks with no probs until yesterday when the pattern started again - he would not eat his breakfast, turned his nose up at his favourite James Wellbeloved treats and clearly looked uncomfortable as his eyes were almost closed and he looked so sorry for himself ! And then we had the famous squeeky tummy !! he had 3ml of Milk of Magnesia and this seemed to settle the squeeks for him.
We went for a short walk - first poo was fine but then a little bit of the runs at the end. then when we got back he had a grass munch followed by a quick vomit !!! all grass and mucous but nothing nasty. Then about an hour later he did an enormous pile of mucousy and bloody poo in the back garden (luckily door was open !!) he did look uncomfortable but after a good sleep he ate some biscuits and by bedtime was back to normal.
So far today he has had breakfast and is all fine again.
We are really strict with his diet - NAturediet Fish and rice meat , Burns Fish and brown rice dry food and James Wellbeloved ocean fish treats. Nothing extra and we cannot find any pattern to his poorly days.
It is horrid to see him poorly but I know it will pass and I guess we are just going to have to ride it out -
Interested to hear from anyone else out there who is having similar probs with their pooch ?

Hi everyone - Barney has settled down to one poorly day a week now - he doesnt eat, then eats grass, sicks up dribble and grass then later in the day we get the horrid poos. However next day is fine.
Been back to chat to the vet tonight and we have started him on a really low dose of steroid tablet once a day to see if that has any effect - if he settles we will go to every other day and see how we get on.
Will keep you all up to date on how he gets on

I am having same problem with my 12yr old westie - past 3-4 weeks days of liquid poo some with blood some just looks very dark. tried him on chappie to firm things up which worked intially then yesterday lots of proper vomit (chappie in it) and back to horrid liquid poo. Sometimes refuses his dinner or breakfast. Normaly has simpsons and forthglade.
Suffering also with possible arthritis and limping terribly, has been on previclax(sp) which works a little and i thought it was this causing the trouble but hes been off it for a few days to assess how well it works but its made no difference.
The strange thing is he does still want to go on walks and seems happy but sleeps a lot.
Am talking to vet again tomorrow and will chat about this tummy problem then.
Hi There,
New to this forum, but I do have a Bedlington, and a Beddie/ Whippet!
My Bedlington boy is 6 rising 7, as an 18mth old, he developed similar symptoms to your Beddie, probably not as severe, but the vomiting, diarrhoea, and anorexia. My vet immediately assumed he has pancreatitis, and put him on a drip for 5 days, then he liver biopsed him! Fortunately he did not have the dreaded copper toxicosis ( prevalent in Bedlingtons), so after all this he scratched his head, and put him on prednisolone, a whopping amount. My poor little dog drank for England, and was ravenous, nice for me to see him eat, but worrying ( I have had a dog with cushings), but gradually we decreased the dose until he was down to 1/2 a pred every other day. Now shoot me down in flames, but my dog has been on this dose for the last 5 years, it keeps him eating, it keeps the symptoms at bay, and he is a happy, perky little doggie, who plays, eats, enjoys life. I know that ultimately it will shorten his life, but today I weighed him on the vet scales and he is not over his proper weight, he is not pot bellied or bloated, and I can only assume that this small dose of steroid, keeps him right. I think what I am saying is that if steroids can help, and used sensibly, it can be a Godsend, it may not work for all, but in my case it has.
