My boss' wife has a horse which can't be ridden due to problems with his back. She has been looking for somewhere that he can go to live out his older years as their other horse is quite lively and bouncy around him.

She has had no luck ,and has asked if I know of anywhere. Due to the fact that I know nothing about horses I wasn't much help but thought I would ask on here.

Do any of you with horses know of / have heard about these sort of places in the Shropshire area?

Many thanks in advance , Kate

ILPH might be of help?

I tryed the blue cross once, but they are full up. Someone may want a companion horse if they only have one. Might be worth advertising in the local saddlery. Its a big problum because of the resession there are lots of horses that people can't afford to keep. Hope she can find him a lovely home.

I dont know if these will help, but I have seen them on various programs taking horses from round the country.
They are in Lincolnshire but have never heard a bad word about them.

Please be very careful about advertising it as looking for a home as a companion, vet any home carefully and check references, this is a route often taken by Dealers who get hold of horses for free, check them out for degree of unsoundness, and either dope them up and sell them at sales or if too bad sell them for slaughter.

The problem you're going to have these days is that the rescues are often full, many horses are being slaughtered as owners can't afford to keep them on and no where else for them to go. Its getting worse around here and another local farmer was telling us so yesterday.

I'd put it to your bosses wife about this and see if she can rent another field for horse to go into.
