My male pug who is 10 months old is on the verge of being murdered by me.
He is a sweetheart with a face anyone would love, but how that little face is losing its ability to overwhelm me.
he is not a fixed pug.. He has been trained !!!! he has 2 little doggie doors i installed in my home for him and my 2 other pugs(both females).
he has choses to urinate on everything he possibly can...he has taken to getting on my couches and urinating on the throw cushions, the arms of the love seat and couch.. any table or item on the floor he will mark....i have been so patient with him..early this morning at 3a.m. while i had gotten up for a few moments . he urinated on my pillow and my covers in my bed.Yes my pugs sleep with me....At that time for the first time i rubbed his nose in it to the point his face was wet with his own urin..Id had it with him..i put him in a crate where he slept for the 1st time!!. this morning i have chosen to leave his little ass outside while the other pugs are inside!!!!! If i choose to bring him in. he will remain in the crate while the other 2 pugs play without him....what else is one to do?...If i sound like a mean individule the so be it.! ive had it with him.. its only him!. Patience and love have got me absolutley no where with him.....

Get him neutered or find him a home where he can be the only dog, because he is competing for attention the only way he knows how.

Hi,
get him neutered and this problem will stop. At 10 months he will become sexually active and marking his territory is one of the signs. Alternatively, you could try it to spray water on him whenever he urinates, but you will have to catch him exactly on time, so that he will get the message. Then put him outside for a while and ignore him. But alas, neutering would be a quicker solution. Rubbing his nose in his "mess" is not going to solve it anyhow.

I would also keep him on lead and not allow any free time off unless he is outside. This way u can correct him when he lifts his leg. Are ur females spayed? If not that may be one reason why he is marking. I had some friends over on the weekend and their little boston started marking, I told them to either kennel him or keep him on lead while they are here (he did it about 3 or 4 times) the little bratt. Luckily my male never started and he is not fixed either. My other 2 males that are fixed they never marked either (I thought for sure one of my males would of maked over his, lucky for me they didn't). Rubbing his face in it does not teach him anything, it only makes u feel better. I would have him neutered this should stop him from marking his territory around ur house, and keep him on lead until he is a good boy and make sure u clean everything and get the smell out. Yelling at him will not help try using a deep growl type voice and tell him he is bad. You can't correct or punish him if u don't catch him in the act that is where keeping him on lead helps. good luck

thanks for the input guys. Dollface i think i will take your advice on the lead while in the house. I know the neutering thing would most likely correct the marking of territory. But i will admit. I do intend to breed both my pugs one time. im waitng till they are in there 3rd heat cycle wich is to be this spring. I Like to think i did my homework befor I brought these little guys into our lives. I look back and dont think i have done anything wrong. They have all been trained and i assumed the male would of learned the routine of his potty training. I was caught off guard though, i didnt expect his harem of females would prompt his marking issue. I believed if another male was in the home then that was going to be the issue....learning all the time.......

You haven't done anything wrong, he's just being a teenager!!! A lot of dogs need a refresher course in housetraining somewhere between 7 and 10 months, during which period they are becoming sexually mature. Getting him neutered would probably stop the problem, but to be honest when his hormones have levelled off it will probably stop anyway, and as you said you want to breed him.
Personally i'd try and "retrain" him - start as though he were a little puppy, taking him out every hour, when he wakes up etc, and praising him when he goes in the right place. i've seen this method work with other dogs that are just maturing and it does work.
Don't lose heart :)

You think you've got it bad. Have you ever watched The Osbournes? Their dogs have got SERIOUS issues!

i did see the episode that featured their dogs and i thought Lola the bulldog was fantastic!!! i remember she pooed directly in front of the pet therapist just after she finished telling the Osbournes how clever she'd been!!!!!

It can be frustrating when dogs mark in the house; have you had him checked by a vet as he may have a health problem?
Please don't rub his face in it until it is wet with his own urine; would you do this to a human baby in nappies who had made a mistake?
Many dogs will lose their training at 7 months or so as others have said, but this dog sounds confused too. Wetting owner's bed etc may often be a sign of great insecurity and unhappiness.
Try reading up a bit on dog behaviour, there are plenty of good books around. Good luck :)

Hi, Annette - couldn't help joining in on the Osbourne thing! I also LOVED Lola pooing in front of the trainer. It rather summed up my feelings about her!
I think they're great fun! Dysfuncional, yes, but curiously there's a lot of love there. Almost as good as watching the Simpsons!

Don't rush into getting him neutered - that may not solve your problem at all. You can have a chemical castration done by an injection of Tardak. It mimics the effects of surgery. That way you'll know if neutering will solve/ease the problem or have no effect.
I can understand your frustration - but rubbing his face in it does no good at all. What you do do - is keep him in his crate at night - let him out but put him straight on his lead or carry him downstairs and out him outside.
If you are in the Uk please be careful about suddenly putting him and leaving him outside - it is very very cold at the moment and if he's not used to it it could make him ill. Also - it's not teaching him anything.
Thouroughly clean everywhere with non ammonia based products and then use febreze to thouroughly remove any remaining odour. Try spraying with " Bitter Apple" or "Get Off" spray - that may deter him.
Have you spoken to his breeder? They may be able to help - especiully if you are at the end of your tether and are thinking of letting him go.
