Havent been out to look yet we usually have lots in our nearby woods. Have been walking elsewhere recently maybe I should change my walking again ?

> and make some sloe gin!
I'm just straining some now, which I made four months ago from sloes left over in the freezer.
I don't see why not - they don't go too slushy after being frozen. Never heard of Raspberry Gin before but it sounds lovely - must make sure I 'Pick My Own' next summer and give it a try. Can we have the recipe???

You may!
6oz sugar + 1lb fruit + 1.5 pint booze
place all in a kilner (or kilner type) jar, then, I shake every day until the sugar is disolved. now the hard part, leave in a dark room for three months. when ready bottle and you could use the fruit for a really tipsy trifle. enjoy.
Think I might call in for a sample next week when I'm doing my shopping ;-)
I've got plenty rasps (and brambles) in my freezer from last year. Never did get round to making jam. You've given me ideas......

We've picked many kilos of sloes which are in the freezer awaiting such time as I have to put gin on them. But we have so many it's going to take an awful lot of gin - where can I buy cheap gin wholesale by the gallon? (Gosh that sounds awful...)

Jo, you are so lucky to have access to sloe's. I cant wait to try mine once I make it.

Many supermarkets do cheap own-brand gin which is fine as a base.

Jo. Just starting with the next batch of sloe gin. The best place I've found to buy is Lidl, just get the cheapest it makes no difference.
Thats a very reasonable amount of fruit - I was expecting to use loads. Will definately make some next summer - will have to make do with Sloe's again this winter.
Just got some blackberry run liquier - its not going to make it to christmas.
OH and I one year went to a country show, we tried and few liquiers and ended up half cut, spent all day there sobering up - shameful. In charge of two young dogs as well, eneded up in the refreshment tent eating cake and drinking coffee to get sober took hours!!

Blackberry whisky is really nice just made it for the second year. Got my eye on some sloes to pick, tried sloe gin and sloe vodka last year.
Anyone used elderberries,I have made elderflower champange but was not keen on that.

Now that's an idea!! I don't like gin but do like vodka. You can make elderberry wine although I liked the elderflower champagne I helped make this year :-)
How do you make the Elderflower champagne, I have Elders and always wanted to try.
Is there anything I can make with Damsons.

Did a bit of home care last year for agency, called at a lovely ladys house, bless her she had just had a masectomy at 82,as soon as I arrived she gave me a glass of cherry brandy that she had made, lovely to say the least, she had three dogs and when I took her up to bed all the dogs jumped in as well,i noticed when I went past a few weeks ago her house is for sale,I was told she has passed away, made me feel so sad.
Sheila

If we carry on like this may need a new category for recipes lol Re damsons you can probably make wine but more commonly they are used for jam

Damson gin or damson vodka.

I knew someone would have somethig better than jam and this early on a monday morning I am impressed !
My uncle made carrot whiskey, whenever we visited we walked home and picked the car up the next day!! really nice and sweet but so powerful he passed away and now we havent got the recipe!!
He walked his dogs (3 rescues) in my woods twice a day for about 15 years and his ashes are in the woods, Im going there with my dogs, but not too soon. Bless Uncle Jim!!
Jams been on the cards for 5 years lol, never managed it. Probably because I'm not a jam eater. Now Damson Vodka...
I did make Black current jam the other with my crop, surprizingly it turned out ok but never really got eaten except for those who throats I shoved it down when they visited.

just replace gin with vodka!
> really nice and sweet but so powerful he passed away
Vivienne... I'm really hoping there was meant to be a full stop after 'powerful'!? I was quite fancying the sound of Uncle Jim's Whiskey until I read what it did!
>I was quite fancying the sound of Uncle Jim's Whiskey until I read what it did!
Me too!
He would have laughed his socks off. Yes a full stop.
He wasnt a lot older than me really and used to give me 10 shilling note when I went away to school - loved him to bits. He made me a dolls house and my brothers a fort. Simple things you remember but he had a great sense of humor and started smoking at about 8!!

My bit was picking the flowers but will get recipe for it and post it, cordial is really good too and can be used in cooking as well as drunk :-)
