Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / b.tch.s delayed season help please

Hi,

I've got a small breed 4 year old b.i.t.c.h. and her seasons have always been consistant every 6 months but it's been about 7 months or so since her last season she is showing the usual signs before a season as in behaviour wise but its been way over a month over due now I'm wanting to breed her to have a litter to keep a puppy for myself have tried her before but she didn't get pregnant I've got homes lined up for the other puppies to go to anyway my question is can the vet find out when she is about to come in season and if she indeed did have a season but was a 'silent season' and is there anything the vet can give her to bring on her season if she is late please if anyone can reply with help thanks

This years weather seems to have upset quite a lot of bitches with their seasons. She is probably just keeping you waiting ;-)

If she is only 1 month late, I would not wish to mess her cycle by getting vet to bring her in(I think it can be done?)
Many bitches seem to have a funny year this year, I have heard quite a few girls being late...

My girl was nearly 2 months late with her spring season and has just come in a month early for the autumn one!
My younger girl has just had her first season, which I think made the older girl to come in.

Nothing unusual, especially if your planing on mating them.  Have waited over two months for a due season, never was late when I was showing when it would have been an advantage, only when I had planned a mating.

Yep same here, my girl had first season at 1 year old (July), followed by 2nd season 7 months later in february. We are eagerly awaiting her third, but nothing:/

You want to mate her this time...........thats why she is late, they seem to have a way of always messing up our well laid plans!

My girl recently came in 2 months early!

I wouldnt interfere with her cycle either, let her body do it when its ready. JMO

Good luck :)

I'm waiting for my girl to come into season for mating.  Only problem is that the stud dog is out of the country for a couple of weeks soon so what's the betting she chooses to be ready during those 2 weeks!

I have had the same problem but my girl came in early, I had planned to mate her this season expecting it to be due in September but she came in two months early end July/August!  That would have meant puppies going to their new homes around Christmas time and I didn't want that, so I decided to wait (I had also booked her into several shows as she was on a roll!!)  Now I am hoping that she is early again for the next season - silly me I know she will be late next time!!!

My girl is usually every 7 months , but this time , I'm sure because she knew I was waiting , managed to go just over 11 months ... little monkey !!! Well worth the wait though as she was mated and had 5 beautiful babies 3 weeks ago  :-)

Sounds typical if you particularly want her in at a particular time! My girl was 7 months to the day pretty much until she had a litter, then she was 8 months to the day, until the next time I wanted to mate her, when she suddenly went back to 7 months and completely messed up all the holiday and mating and puppy time off plans I had made! :-)

Hi everybody thanks for all your replies it's been reassuring that I'm not the only one who's waiting for their girly to come in to season as anticipated they do have a way of keeping us on our toes don't they lol
