I have a girl with a pet passport.
Her rabies jab is due in January and I was going to get it done now as I'm planning on mating her and she could have babies in January.
Well, she has only gone and started her season early!
I called the vet who was not very useful at all, saying I could vaccinate now or in January...
Did not seem to get my concerns at all telling me the vaccinations are tested and safe and blahblah -new vet, our brilliant vet has left the practice.
Neither vaccination sits perfectly well with me (especially in January where she will have babies suckling from her) but I would prefer not having to go through the passporting process again.
Not only because of the hassle&cost of it but what about if she fails and I can not get her a passport again!
Now, the baby we will keep will need to get a passport as well so they can travel out of UK...
I have heard of few cases where the bitch has been rabies vaccinated right before her season and the resulting puppies have struggled to get high enough antibody readings for the passport...even after being boostered few times in trying to get the antibodies going.
I don't know if this has been a coincidence or if the just renewed rabies jab has made a difference.
I know this is long shot but does anybody have personal experiences in the matter?
