Hi everyone. My freind is thinking of taking dogs in for owners when they go away on holiday. She would only take 1 or 2 dogs ( from the same family ) at a time .She has brilliant facilities and is very experienced in animal behaviour but hasnt had a dog of her own for along time because her cat was terrified of dogs so always felt it would be unfair to take one into their home.Very sadly her cat has now died so she is thinking it might be a good time to start this little venture.
Can anyone advise on what sort of insurance she would need to have and would she have to be liscensed with the council for this number of dogs at any one time. They would live indoors with her , not in a kennel.
Does anyone else do this sort of thing ?

Its home boarding. She will need insurance and Cliverton is a popular one. Lots of people do this by working for a franchise who sort out all the necessary requirements. I'd of thought that the council would need to grant a licence, as I understand it, it was a max of 6 dogs for home day care per 1 person in an area in Dorset.
The council would be the only people to advise on that though.
Pals4Pets are a franchise and i've used them to look after my boys earlier in the year and they were great.

Thanks for that info , I'll look into Cliverton. She only wants to do it for freinds really , just to help them out rather than there dogs having to go into kennels , so I dont think she would want a franchise.I'll have a look on the councils web site and see what I can find. Thanks

You can also work for the franchise too. The franchise in my area for this place has lots and lots of people on their books for dog walking, puppy sitting, home boarding etc. Not sure if you have to take on so many dogs a year or pay into it etc so would need to enquire.
