Hi Just wondering if your GSD does the same.......
If my cats are playing in the house skitting all over the place playing chase, jumping on each other etc, Sam thinks theyre fighting and trys to stop them by standing in the middle, and he always gets a smack off one of the cats for his trouble, poor dog, he just carrys on wagging his tail. I just leave them too it as I think its funny to watch them all. Also if my cats try to go upstairs and I shout for them to come back as they are not allowed Sam always goes up to herd them back down, he does this aswell if they are outside and i want them to come in, i just think its all funny stuff they just do. But when I feed Sam, he always sits nicely waiting for me to say its ok for him to eat, and if the cats take a sneaky bit of food out of his dish from under his nose, he still sits patiently without batting an eye. I love watching them all interact with each other so nicely. But outside on walks Sam wants to chase every cat he comes across.
I don't have cats ( or a GSD come that ! ) but...
... your Sam sounds like a poppet :)

I don't have cats but I do have a 12 month old GSD. When we go on our walks I sometimes have my 3 year old little boy with me. Typical little boy, likes to run and run. Now and again he will go a little bit too far ahead, Reggie will run after him and try to herd him back towards us. If that fails he just stands in front so he can't move. It's funny how dogs can sense things. If I have Reggie on the lead and my little boy strays a bit too far ahead, Reggie will get quite distressed. We have an allotment. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead. When we got to the allotments last week my little boy ran off down the track and onto our allotment. Reggie was whining puling at the lead and generally fretting because he couldn't see Bradley and to him that just wasn't right!!! Bless him. The two of them are best friends and they are always making me smile when they are together. Its amazing how gentle a big dog like a GSD can be!!!

Ah bless.
My friend has a male GSD and 2 cats and he is brilliant around them and often cleans the young cat. He also likes to tell tales on the young cat when its going something wrong.
Though he will look to chase strange cats in the street, not in an aggressive manner, but more to chase and play.

Awww they all sound so good!!!
I am waiting for the day when my older cats sits on Sam and purrrrrssss alover him, that would be funny to watch. Its good how they all respect and love each other too. xx
my old collie used to act as"police dog"if ever my cats were having a rough and tumble!now my 4 young cats snuggle in with my young bitch, and i caught one snuggling with my grumpy old one this morning!Either brave kitties or soft dogs,or both!My young one would also chase strange cats,if im not quick enough!

One of my cats is very poorly,(think we aren't far from Goodbye)... my dogs have always been gentle with him. They are fussing and loving and giving up their beds,(with out protest), to him all the time at the moment. The GSP keeps giving him gifts from the garden. Today it was a pine cone ;-)
I can't say the same for the other cat though, he is being a right hood to him!
im sorry about your cat, best wishes sent.xx

Thank you. He is a lovely cat and now 16 but the illness is nasty. We are just watching and while he is still happy we will look after him. I think I know when the time will be right for him.

We had our boy PTS this evening..
Sorry to hear this news bilbobaggins, he is free from pain now though.
