Took my labrador back to the vets today, he's getting progressively worse after going on Zitac to sort out his poorly tummy from the metacam. The vet thought there may be a blockage because he can't hold any food down and he isn't going to the loo either. Anyway the vet did a blood test which revealed kidney failure and high calcium levels in his blood. He's now in the vets on a drip for 48 hours, the vet said if its temporary failure then the kidneys will respond well to the drip and he will feel alot better, but if its permanent, we will have to look at diet etc. He's so poorly, not sure what to think or what the outcome of all this will be :(
I've no experience with this, sorry, I hope he's alright in a couple of days for ya, let us know eh.
You have my sympathy, I hope he picks up. If in time you require help re diet and what to avoid etc them pm me as I have experience of losing a dog to renal failure; that said there is MUCH that can be done in invidual cases etc. It all depends what stage you are talking about.
Fingers and 16 paws crossed for a positive outcome.
Thank you, will let you know what the vet says on friday. Have googled it and feel the outcome may not be a good one :(
Sometimes Googling for medical advice from web sites either human or animal isn't always reliable (cds site excluded of course) often is - but in my experience often not too. More sites, I find, look at the worst and negative outcomes. I have had a few friends google different doggy illnesses. And stress out at what they have read sometimes unnecessarily.

I lost my Zak a spinone x due to this just over three year ago now. However he had , had problems from being about eight months old.
We adjusted his diet which worked for a long time , but he started to get worse at around six years old , we made the decision to let him go to rainbow bridge when he was seven , as he was beginning to suffer.
I do hope everything works out for you , Zak had a very happy seven years which we never dreamed he would make.
I'll keep my fingers crossed here xx
I agree with Sian, sometimes looking up stuff can put the frighteners up you. I myself was diagnosed with a kidney disease, when I went to see the consultant I asked about diet and he looked up a list of good and bad foods on the internet!!!!
As I said I am here for a private message if you need it, if I don't reply by return then I am away for a few days, will check before we go for some positive news; I take it they have done a full blood screen?
All the best
