Came across a Lab/poodle cross a short while ago it had absolutely nothing going for it, poor conformation, terrible movement and a coat that resembled my floor mop - no I am wrong it was very very friendly but totally uncontrollable but I am used to that.

OMG don't even get me started I was screaming at the tv when this came on, I was so mad. I have made a comment on the points of view message board but as I'm a new user my posts have to be screened so very much dout it will get posted. What an idiot that man is, there was so many things wrong with the situation, the poor bitch is way to old, they were both maiden dogs, they would be crossbreeds, the owners had no idea how to handle a mating as sitting there with drinks while the dog terrorises the poor bitch is NOT how its done, and I very much dout health testing even crossed their tiny minds. I was not amused when it was mentioned that these crossbreeds don't moult and apparently this crossbreed was an award winner?????? yer most handsom dog at a fun dog show more like. Oh and by the way Lord bath there is no such thing as a white Labrador, your bitch is yellow!

Think you mean she is NOT ;-)... Been reading your updates on FB.. You really do wonder, especially Ben Fogle.. What on earth has his father not taught him :-(

They actually posted my thread on the bbc points of view message board, but sadly it won't reach the people it needs too :(

Lea, I'm glad your message appeared on the POV board but I'm afraid the Beeb take no notice of anything that appears on there :-(  You could try contacting the company that produces the programme (www.endemoluk.com) and make your feelings known.  The programme is produced by Joff Wilson.  If he is employed by the BBC he will have one of their email addresses.  No harm in sending an email to joff.wilson@bbc.co.uk.  Worst thing that could happen is it will bounce back.  As for Ben Fogle.......the man is an idiot and will probably be gurning all over the screen when the BBC show Crufts again, telling us all that we must be 'responsible' dog breeders.

Shocked, seriously shocked.... What the heck is he playing at??? I've always been a fan of Bruce and his son Ben, but this has made me rethink after hearing that

and loads of errors.

Bruce Fogle has always been like this. He wrote a dog breed book and a cat breed book. The dog book was full of designer crosses, BEFORE they were even common in the UK! (probably gave people ideas.......), and the cat book was so full of errors about the breeds that I even wrote to the publishers to complain. Never received a reply. (As I have written books myself, in particular about cat breeds, I felt I was somewhat qualified to complain.)

I'll also never forget when he was writing a column in Dogs Today and was considering breeding from one of his two Golden bitches that he had then. (Years ago now.) He said her hip score came back really, really high, but he still wasn't sure whether he should breed from her or not as she had other good qualities!! That's when he lost any respect I had for him. This will have been during the 90s. He doesn't appear to have changed at all.

That episode was aired over a year ago I think you watched a re- run.

> Bruce Fogle has always been like this

He was speaking at a branch meeting of the United Retriever Club, he was recommending different breeds of dog and said, "Of course I would never recommend a flatcoated retriever" So I asked him why? His reply, "They all die before they are eight years old". I challenged this with my friend John Weller who knows my dogs really well. I had at that time got a flatcoat bitch who was 16 years old, and two others over 10. When we pointed this out to him he said "I think you are mistaken if you go home and look up your KC registration certificates you will find none of them are over eight years old" John and I were left speechless! John recovered first and muttered something along the lines 'the mans clearly an idiot! :-D

Lord Bath and his wifelets, has always been a little strange.

"I think you are mistaken if you go home and look up your KC registration certificates you will find none of them are over eight years old"

How rude!!!! As if anyone would NOT remember their dogs' date of birth -almost like saying you can't remember your kids dob. In fact I can, even after 10 years, never remember my husband's birthday (I know it's either the 10th or 11th but not which) but ask me any of my dogs'!!

MarianneB, a woman after my own heart! I am exactly the same.

I did not see the programme but am surprised as I thought he was a dog lover, when we stayed on the Longleat caravan site we were free to wander around the grounds and he has a pet cemetry with all different names and breeds on the tombstones. I was a bit concerned to see that one said " Housekeeper" :(

I have no time for Ben Fogle or his dad, nice but dim.

> I was a bit concerned to see that one said " Housekeeper"

In some breeds giving the dog a name like Housekeeper or Protector is the same as us calling our pets Snuffles or Fluffy. I have even heard of a dog called Producer and another called Plague!
