Hi to all those that have been following Sid's progress.
I thought it would be easier to post this as a new topic save going through all your kind, best wishes for Sid.
He had his mylogram which indicated a very large prolapse disc pressing on his spinal cord.
The vet phoned with the news, and that the only way to improve the situation was to operate and remove the disc, which we agreed.
2 hours later as promised, the vet rang again, to say the operation had gone very well, albeit the spinal cord was very bruised (more than he anticipated) and there was more than the normal amount of fluid syringed off , but he had seen dogs with similar conditions make a full recovery.
Of course Sid being Sid, he had to throw a wobble on the table, just as the wound was being closed, his pulse rate dropped from a 110 to 40 bpm and subsequently took a cardiac arrest.
Fortunately he responded to the adrenaline and the vet thinks there should be no adverse side effects......but the vet and nurse gained about 100 grey hairs during the process.
They say we will be lucky if he is home for Christmas, but so be it.
Fingers and toes crossed

I have been waiting on knife edge since seeing your last posting yesterday. Thank goodness Sid has come through the operation, and healing thoughts for him are winging their way from here in Norfolk.

Sorry to hear about your probs. Is he in the Veterinary Hospital at Kingswells? If so, I'll give him a wave on my way home :)

No 9thM, he is still in the Veterinary Hospital in Fife, and likely to be there for a week or so.
He was rushed down yesterday from Kingwells Vet Hosp as they cannot perform the surgery that he required.
Hi All,
Good News and a smile at last:)
Sid has had a good day :) Eating very well and trying to stand. Vet very pleased and surprised with his progress so far :) :)

Hooray, hope he carries on improving

Elaine,
How is he today?
Anne
Hi All,
Sid has had another very good day. He now has some mobility and no longer incontinent.
Plenty of encouraging news :D :D :D

Elaine,
Can't begin to tell you how pleased I am :-D :-D :-D
Anne
Thanks, we are very pleased.
Hazel was spayed today and she too is fine, very sleepy. We decided not to go ahead with the 3 spays as planned because we didn't want to end up looking after 4 dogs over the festive period.:D :D

brill news Elaine.:)
Dot

I'm really happy for you
Anne
Hi All,
Sid is home.:) :)
He will require to be caged for the next 10 days, (and he is already whinning) followed by freedom in one room of the house. Then after 3-4 weeks he can be allowed to walk around the garden. The poor soul has a fairly large wound and has been clipped nearly all over. He will need a wee jumper to keep him warm:D :D (Any knitters out there!!:D :D)
Although he tries to walk, his hind legs are still very weak and it will be many months before he is a 100%.
The vet showed us the xrays and its amazing that he has recovered at all as the spinal cord was compressed by over 50% by the disc.
I am glad he is only a small dog as he will need to be carried out to the garden for the next few weeks!!
Thanks everyone for your kind wishes........Sid sends lots of woofs and licks
Keep you posted in a week or so's time.

And a cuddle to him from me, I'm so glad he's home. This will help to make your Christmas I would think.:-)
Really really happy for you

Great news, have a peaceful christmas, now he is with you.

Hi,
Just to update you all on Sid's progress. He is just back after having his stitches removed and the vet says his progress is as expected.
This is his 10th day strict cage rest and has coped very well. He is still quiet wobbly and still not sure of how his legs work.
We can only hope that he continues to improve although I think we must realise that he will never be 100%.
I know I have said this before, but it's such a shame to see his show career over before that final elusive 3rd CC,but at the end of the day it's his health that is most important.

So glad Sid is getting there - poor thing. Barney had trouble with 3 of his 4 legs and I know how upsetting it is.
Best wishes
