Well I've taken the plunge (excuse the pun) and enquired about classes at the local pool to get a bit fitter (especially to lose my 'muffin top'). They have on offer Aquafit or adult only swims. Now as I can probably only manage only a width at best should I choose the adults only swim at my own pace or the Aquafit?
Aquafit is so much more fun, especially if you are not a strong swimmer. My daughter is doing aquanatal and still manages to have a good workout and can feel the muscles have had a workout the following day.

Aquafit as you'll not be out of your depth and be doing exercises to music and having fun. Left alone in a pool to swim lengths, well you'll only do so much and get bored i'm sure.
I love Aqua Aerobics and you can make it as tough as you like.
Me personally would opt for the adults only class, sounds alot more fun to me...;)

I prefer to swim but I do an aquafit class with my NON swimmer friend..

I started aqua aerobics about a month ago, following a hysterectomy to get fit, its great fun but now swim once a week too in adults only time, still nervous of getting bumped etc (although now schools hols are over wil just go midweek) but aqusize is great fun.

At our local pool, the adults only swim is literrally just that, not a class, but laned swimming with no under 18s allowed in the pool, so if you're not a confident swimmer, I'd go for the aqua fit class, where you are unlikely to be out of your depth in the water, and it'll probably involve aerobic type & fun exercise moves, rather than just thrashing up & down lanes (which is great for fitness, but can be boring)

I have done the geriatric version of aquafit and it is a good giggle - you do get stronger you will be surprised how much your swimming will improve although you can do the class even if you don't swim as everyone has a foot on the ground.

I used to do Aquafit and it was fun, pity my local pool doesn't do it on the days I am free now!

Aquafit is great, excellent exercise for any age and social too. Some of the participants at my gym go to 4 sessions a week!

Thanks for all the info, I will try the Aquafit, it's on several times a week. I only hope that there won't be any yummy mummies there all toned and tanned in skimpy bikinis to put me to shame!
I did aquafit years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I bought 'water shoes' and everything. I was amazed at how much hard work it is, especially stuff like 'spotty dog' with tens of women around you causing opposing currents. Most of the women that went were far from toned, so I wouldn't worry!
