I am just amazed I walked all 3 of my dogs yesterday at once for about 20 min, didn't want to over do it since they can't walk like they use to- have only done this a couple of times by myself.. I had tiva on the right and the other 2 on the left, only had a check collar on all of them and just amazed how well they behaved- no pulling at all. Funny when hubby or the kids come with me and we each have a dog Junior likes to pull- T-bone is a treat to walk always have been... just don't get why when by myself they are so nice to walk all together. :-)

I walk 5 and have walked up to 6 dogs at a time by myself.  When hubby came along he wanted to help, so I let him have two and like you it was far worse than me having all of them together.

I far prefer to have all the dogs in the one hand so the other is free.

I never used to use anything but half check (martingale) collars,b but nwo use headcollars on 4 out fo 5 and it is liek having power steering :)

Why is this? When I walk them together their behaviour is so much better than when OH or friend comes along and takes one. It's the same when off lead (OK I know they're hounds), but should I walk with someone they loose all interest in me and respose time is pitiful.

I think it is more exciting and a novelty when another person joins us on a walks, so the dogs take advantage. Not only this, but we are usually a little more distracted by the presence of the other person/s and the dogs take advantage.

I was also wondering to maybe its because they are not walking beside eachother so they are trying to catch up to one another- if that made any sense lol

Mine all pull more if both of us walk them, like you suggest Dollface I think they are trying to catch up to each other. I used to walk my three without much trouble, now I'm down to 2 adults and the puppy who will be starting walks soon. :-)

That is what hapens with mine so then all the leads and we get tangled.

Its funny cause when hubby is walking T-Bone and when I say heel to Junior T-Bone always tries to heal to me, even if he tells T-Bone heel she heels closer to me. Prob because Iam the one that feeds them/treats ect- lmao Junior pulls like a bratt to be up by her.

I think more walks with me just having the lead so less stressfall and my arm doesn't ache at the end of it :-)

my GSD walks ok with me but when I have hubby and the kids with me he pulls like a tank engine if someone walks in front. He has to be at the front of the group. Once there he will walk fine. My trainer suggested it was a guarding instinct and we may never get him out of it. He just likes to make sure everyone is safe!!

Yes it makes sense, when I walk our two together there are quite happy walking beside each. But if walked individually with someone, Otto has to be out front with Lucas behind. If Lucas finds himself out in front he will come to a halt and refuse to walk on till Otto has passed him or Otto will pull like a train till he's in front and then they will settle down. Lol
