I went to my Mum and Dads for lunch today.I was out in the front garden waiting for my Dad to take me shopping(glad when I can drive!) when their next door neighbour asked if we had seen this black Lab dog before.A young girl about 11 had found him running in the busy road and was knocking house to house looking for its owner. The next door neighbour said that he had rung the telephone number on the I.D disc and the owner said he didn't want it back. The neighbour asked me what to do.I said I would ring the dog warden (a friend)and if he did take it back at least he would have to pay a fine. With that a van pulled up,the dog broke away and was running in the road.He gets out, roughly grabs the poor dog, drags it back to the van.Throws it roughly in the van and said he can't carry on with the dog running off.I shout to him that its not the dogs fault if he can't look after it properly and give it a secure loving home.
Some people.

Pity they can't just fine these owners the cost of whatever it takes to rehome these dogs. An attachment of earnings or a legal charge on their property might make some of these characters think twice before they adopt an animal. Well done you lot for doing your best x

what bugs me is when some owners just throw there dog out to run around by them selves instead of walking them. Some one i use to knoe would do it with there lurcher, it got picked up 3 time by the dog warden running in traffic, they payed to get it back twice and just left it the third time. A friend of a friend use to do it, she would just open the frount door put them out siad and said they will come back when they are hungery and go back in the house and close the door. I allmost ran it over one time as it ran out from behind a parked car.

Don't get me started on this subject ! I had an incidence a few years ago where there was an elderly Lab that I found wandering down the middle of a very busy main road. No tag so asked around the neighbours and they told me who she belonged to but said she was alsways out and they let her run free most of the time. I took her home as wanted to see how long it was beofre they decided to come looking after her. A day later there was a knock at my door and the people were stood there. I got a load of verbal abuse about how I had kidnapped her ! I went onto explain that I had saved her life and they should be flipping grateful and how I felt they were totally irresponsible and should make sure she was unable to roam. They went on to tell me she had been run over a couple of times and had to have major surgery both times and no matter how many times they gave her a good thrashing when they caught her it didn't stop her as they found it difficult to secure there property :-( To say I was angry was an understatement and unfortunately I had to give her back but told them in no uncertain terms that if I heard taht she had or saw her roaming again then they would have to answer to me and would report them for neglect.  She was PTS a few month later :-(

This dog is still sadly roaming the streets and had the audacity to walk right into my parents kitchen this week.Have given them the dog wardens telephone number.About 18 months ago a new neighbour moved in across the road and let their 2 small terriers out into their ungated drive,My Dad thought it was an accident waiting to happen, then a few days later one ran straight out into the road and was very sadly hit by a car and subsequently died.Makes me so angry-why do these people bother to have dogs?

I would advise phoning the dog warden to pick the dog up and then the owner can be fined.

Most local authorities have fines for allowing a dog to be on a public road without a lead and for fouling.

Here it is £500 for off lead and £1000 for fouling, though I have never heard of anyone being caught and fined, as you have to catch them first.

where i live we have a problem of latchkey dogs, when you phone the council we do not have a dog warden, and the person they send out to collect the dog will only collect it if it is tethered, i said that would not be the problem then it would not be wandering onto main roads etc if tethered, so the upshot of it is, that if a dog is stray tough no one is interested in it where i live and it is allowed to go and run around and harrass other dogs that are walking with their owners.

i feel so annoyed that we have to catch them and tether them and when i have my own dogs i really do not have anywhere that i can tether them or even cage them till they who ever they are decide to come and collect them on behalf of the council

I'd be writing to the council and the councillors (don't know how local government works) for them to fulfil their responsibilities as the council are responsible for dealing with stray dogs.

Also a traffic issue and a public safety issue (loose livestock can cuse accidents).

Its frustrating when there isnt alot that can be done! I would say call the RSPCA if you know where he lives, and have them make a house cal, maybe they can take the dog if its not in good condition or being poorly treated!

I get frustrated sometimes with my dogs mainly when there my cats or when they think a gd game its to shread the bin all round the garden. But as long as their not being aggressive (which they never have been) I dont think there is any need to handle them with force r aggression! aas you say some people dont deserve dogs, and thik its great when ther cute when puppies but whe there out of control its a different story altogether
