I don't know if this has already been asked or not, haven't got the time to search at the mo.
Right my question is this - i don't intend to become a breeder as such - but i do want to continue my ebbie's line for myself, so i may have more litters in the future - from her pups - if u see what i mean - anyways - i am thinking of registering an affix - what's another £70 on top of all the other expenses of litters and puppies - do u all think it's worth it even though i don't show and i don't want to be a known breeder as such. I would however like to be able to keep an eye out for my dogs in breed supplements etc and make it easier for owners of my dogs to find me by having an affix.
What are all your opinions?

I have just applied for my registration anyways - so if there is anyone out there with an up to date affix book - i know it's still not a guarantee but could be kind enough to see if Jeska is registered - THANK YOU XXXXXXX

No but "Jescar" is a registered affix so you could well be turned down as "Jeska" sounds very similar. Back to the drawing board I'm afraid :-)
You have to put 3 different choices on the form - Jeska was the first - my oldest is called Jessica, my little one - Jake calls her Jeska - so as i use jakieboy - his nickname for everything else thought it only fair - my next choice is Jesebee - again - daughters name - Jessica Beatrice, and third choice was jakieboy - hopefully i'll get one of them.
Thank you soooo much for looking. :D :D

You should be ok with either "Jesebee" or "Jakieboy" - neither appear in the book.

Sorry I cross posted my last message with your last:) What about Ebbikki, Jebbik, Jajenieb?:D :D

Lol - thanx - if I don't get any of those 3 - i'll have to go back to the drawing board - i like the idea of incorporating ebbie's name into it - somehow - it wouldn't be copying her pedigree name cos it's Damasand Midnight Dream, Ebony cos - yeah really original - you've guessed it - she is pure black :D

I wouldn't send the form off just yet until you've found out if the affixes you've chose are registered or not:) I think you'll find your replies on here will come through quicker than the KC if they tell you *no, you can't have them*:D What's your other half called by the way? Maybe you could use the first half of your name and last of his etc or vice versa?

Well, I don't have an other half - we split up in February. And I'd like to get my affix before I have the pups, they won't charge my card until it's decided so - I've got my fingers crossed on one of those already mentioned. The kc reckon they have it done within 10 days - so let's see - knowing it's xmas and all that, but there are 10 working days between now and when they are due.

ok , explain affix's to me please!
It is just the first part of your dogs pedigree name right? and if you are going to continue breeding you will become known ( hopefully) by the "affix" .. "name" that your dogs names proceed..right? is it just one single word?do they limit the amount of letters?
Can anyone explain why I have Admin Edit on my previous post...???
Have I done or said something wrong....I have read the terms of Service and can't understand what I have done....?!?!?!
Please somebody explain....otherwise I'll be afraid to post in case I do something offensive....Arrrgghhh...!!!!!

"I don't intend to become a breeder as such"
well if you breed, you ARE a breeder!!!!
Sorry Sam,
I meant that I'm not intending on producing puppies left right and centre, i would like to continue my dog's line - however I'm going to see how I cope with this litter and i may have another litter from the one bitch i intend to keep (if i'm lucky), once she is old enough and if she is good enough or i may never breed again. What i meant was - was it worth it for just one litter? I have already sent my form in now, and i do think it is worth it, since being on this board I'm doing more and more research into her line and the stud's line. Also I would like to point out that I am certainly not in this for any sort of profit, i went in with my eyes open, it's cost me a lot of money already and will continue to cost me. I am trying to do as much as i can right - just sorting out things for puppy packs now and i need a puppy contract (if anyone can help) and of course as a responsible breeder, I will make it clear that i will take them back etc - although from reading other threads on here - i know that the breeder isn't always the first to know.
Thanx Nikki xxx

Have you read the breeder definitions on Ali C's thread *What is a breeder?*.
If not go read them, then tell us which one you are. :)
I have read Ali's thread - with interest - and if i followed that class system - i would consider myself definitely above the puppy raisers, but i still wouldn't consider myself as a breeder, I'm new to it - i would like to get into showing - i don't drive and i knew from the start that although ebony is a very good example of the breed she has 2 faults - she is about 1/2 inch smaller then average and she has some gold hair (literally only a few) in places where there shouldn't be on a solid cocker (from books i read before i bought her) however i fell in love with her. I took her to the owner of her sire (after advice from her dam's owner) and she helped to decide which dog to put her with. So thought has gone into it, including the money side, space, selling them, having them back etc etc etc. I have been to dog shows, my brother was engaged to a sibe breeder, and yes i would like to join them, and once when my kids have grown and i learn to drive - i will, in the meantime i would like to continue her line with the help and advice of the breeders i know.
Also, and this is just me - i don't know what else you would call them - but the word breeder just makes me think of someone who breeds all the time - as if this is the only thing they do, but it isn't. That is just my opinion and sorry to any good breeders out there - it's not against you, just the term.

I was going to say that I thought there was perhaps a category in between the Breeder and Puppy raiser - but I ent brave enough to classify it! :o
:)

This is the problem Jakieboy, the term breeder should be something to be proud of, but it has been sabotaged in the general publics mind to mean the commercial ones, who to us are just puppy farmers.
I get asked a lot when out with my brood if I am a breeder, and I find I always have to qualify it, which is a shame. I usually say that I breed occasionally as part of my hobby of showing dogs. I consider myself a hobby breeder.
Regarding the affix matter. I wanted to have an affix from the start, as I was proud of my litter, and wanted them to be easily recognised as mine.
I don't drive either, and am most grateful to the folk that give me and my girls lifts to shows. If you find a ringcraft club, you may find someone in the same breed or group who will have room to take you in return for half the travel costs.

Drop me a line and I will send you my contract. You can play with it until it suits you! It is in Word!
Yep you are absolutely right brainless,
It is all the puppy farmers that give breeding a bad name.
Thank you for your advice - to be honest because i knew ebbie's colour was slightly off i didn't bother to find out, and i didn't know about ring craft classes - i do now - since being on this board - i will have to try and find some locally - v locally, if i decide to keep a pup - i'm being choosy at the mo - i would like a solid gold one now - but i know damn well that i will fall in love with all of em and find it hard to choose.

oh - and hobby breeder sounds a better way of describing it and i have dropped you a line :D
Nikki

Have sent it to you :)
Thanx Barbara, recieved it this morning.

I got my affix back in 6 days, couldn't believe how quick KC was and got my first choice.

Yes ..same with me ..I was astonished at how fast they are now compared to about 10 years ago

Technology ladies technology..
Years ago they would not issue one until the time had passed for objections if I am correct as the had little IT so it was more likely they could have missed an existing affix.
Now we are hitech and after they do their search they are 99% confident that the chosen affix is not is use so they will release it but you do have to wait for the final OK .
It is good to see them catching up eh?? The Kc were great with mine they helped me over the phone. I didn't have to send in 3 or 6 or whatever they ask, I called them and the girl helped me over the phone, I then sent in just one and it was OK'd.
