It's like saying what is the point in the register or marriages and deaths or the DVLA.

Taking it further what is the point of councils, governmetns etc.

Think people expect the Kennel Club to do the job we all thought the RSPCA did until we realised they were not an animal rescue society but a Lobbing Group.

The Kennel Club is like the Football Association it is the controlling and registering organisation of canine activities.

Exactly, but they do say that their remit is the general improvement of dogs, so the idea is that they oversea welfare is justified in the modern perception of improvement.

Of course health is part of improvement, as is the improvement in type, performance etc (temperametn goes without saying, without it you haven't really got anything).

Yes, Brainless that is so, all part of the rules and regs. along with the registration restrictions, the whole package being for the welfare and improvement of the canine and the control of the activities undertaken with dogs no doubt with the same criteria in mind.

I listened to this programme and I was quite disappointed with radio 4 using emotive words such as pooch, mutts, pampered. The programme wasnt anywhere as "meaty" as I had expected and hoped for.

I too was rather disappointed in this programme. In certain areas the presenter was a little too "frivolous" for my liking.  I had expected a more serious documentary programme.  I wonder why the Bulldog ,(which 1) the Gsd and the King Charles were singled out for particular mention when there are so many others with just as many health problems.
