Topic Dog Boards / Health / Flea Eczema

Hi..Tansy is showing the 'flea eczema' pattern of losing the hair and having dermatitis on her back end. Obviously she is itchy, and I find this probably as distessing as she does. I have searched the boards, and was surprised that I couldn't find this problem mentioned before... maybe my spelling lol.
Anyway, she has been back and forth to the vet, and has had two injections, been frontlined and then followed that up a month later with advocat, she has been on piriton and has had cream. The vet said it was probably a flea allergy, and as Tansy is a allergic type of dog I was not surprised. What I am concerned by is the lack of progress as she does not seem any better.
Earlier in the summer, she did develop a place on her back that drove her mad and if you so much as touched it gently, it set off a frenzied scratching, and the injections she had DID stop that at least, and because she was being treated she didn't develop her usual itchy red feet which was a bonus!!
So.... any suggestions of how to treat this current bout of Tansy-ness would be very much appreciated.
Thank you :-)

Does your vet definately think its flea allergy or has he suggested she may be allergic to something in her food, or indoor/outdoor allergens?

It was the vet who suggested we try Advocate, although I haven't seen a flea since she was Frontlined. The vet said that fleas were becoming resistant to Frontline, but it hasn't helped anyway.
We have never established the other things she is allergic to, but as they are summer allergies I would think grass/pollen. We kept her away from the park this year and she hasn't had the whole red itchy paws thing, just this on her back...

How old is the dog and what breed? I had a collie that had the summer problem with his feet and at one time he had no hair on his feet I used to wash them ever time he came home and as he got older he grew out of it. My aussie became resistant to frontline apart from scratching until he bleed we found fleas we have now used advantix which seem to have solved the problem. Advocate has Ivermectin in it which many breeds cannot tolerate and can effect their nervous system.

Tends to be refereed to as 'Hot spots'  Can be fleas, or a nick with a fungal or bacterial infection (so scratching due to fleas can start it).  it seems most often to occur with humidity, so either humid weather or where a dog gets wet and doesn't dry properly.
