Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Suppliers of meat and bones
- By katherine75 [gb] Date 31.08.10 19:47 UTC
I have been feeding my dogs on Natural Instinct of the last 5-6mths and they are all doing really well on it. It is an excellent quality but is very expensive so I have decided to try doing my own diet but I am having problems sourcing bones from local butchers. I have looked at various suppliers but I am wondering if anyone can advice me which supplier to go to for good quality meat and bones.

It depends where you are as some suppliers operate within tight geographical areas.  I use TPMS and have been very pleased with their products, their prices and their deliveries.

The only thing you have to watch with 'bone' deliveries is that they tend to come 'welded' together.  I sling them onto the ground a few times which usually does the trick and entertains the dogs at the same time :)

I use The Dog Food Company. Really fresh products, can't fault them.
Used to use Landywoods but had problems with their products.

I use Honeybrook for the bird food but they do Rabbit and foul which can be fed to the dogs.
DAF foods also do frozen stuff and theirs is for dogs.  I find they have a wide selection of different meats/cuts.
Do you not have anyone that rabbits near you?  If you find a hunter, they will usually sell you fresh stuff, much better.  A few years ago, someone ran over a deer and all the traffic had to stop.  My dad walked over and seen the deer was clearly dead, picked it up and chucked it in the boot!  Fed the dogs for a while that did!  Got some very strange looks though.  I think they thought we must drive round scraping up road-kill to eat!  Waste not, want not.

Furriefriends, I can't get hold of Scott. He is not answering emails/voicemails. How did you get hold of him???
I know he was away for a while and his brother was running things but I've not had any replies from him since the begining of July!! I owe him £25 too, and he didn't answer if he wanted me to send him a cheque!

What number did you get hold of him on???

Thanks.

Thanks for all your advise. I did email The Dog Food Company last weekend but I have not had a reply yet. I live on the Hants/Berks border does anyone know if they deliver to my area and is it only on certain dates?

How long did it take b4 you got hold of them and when you did, how long was it before delivery.  Need to find something less costly than Natural Instinct, though have to say their service is "gold star". I am in sussex and don't know if they deliver here (the dog food co.)

Freja is you find out then let me know i'm also in Sussex, but not got round to calling them yet.
Berriewoods deliver down here as do Albion - not tried the latter before but have friends who do and are happy with them.

Got an email from Scott yesterday. He is down my way (essex) end of the week. I'm pretty sure he does delivery to Sussex.
Try ringing him as he delivers and replies to the emails himself, so it's hard to get him that way. Think I was just lucky to catch him at the PC cos he replied in 10 mins!
His stuff is great though so I imagine he gets a LOT of emails! Good luck.

IF i get a response will let you know. If he is delivering to you and you see him, would you be kind enough to ask if he does do sussex. thanks Gizmoo.

I won't see him, but my mum is waiting in for him for me.
Send me the email you sent him in PM and I will print a copy and get her to give it to him! He can't miss that lol

Used to use Berriewoods before they had delivery charge which is now £4! Chicken wings I had from them on 1 occasion had black bits frozen into them.which looked to me like faecal matter. when I rang them the person was not helpful, threw them away. Can't remember who supplied their meat. They don't really stock what I am looking for, will look at albion meat site. Thanks suejaw.

Suejaw, Gizmoo is going to ask him to contact me when he gets his delivery. He may respond in the meantime tho.

Suejaw, finally able to send email to Scott at the dog food co. He does deliver to sussex,2 runs a month. Wanted to know where about in sx.I live. Sent email yesterday had response straight away, perhaps because sunday and not delivering. I managed to get some meaty bones from butcher this weekend so am quite full at the mo, but will definitely be ordering from him.

They are going to be covering the Midlands in a fortnight or so so anyone in the area needs anything now is the time to contact them,(he is on holiday for 2 weeks though)
- By suejaw Date 13.09.10 12:34 UTC
Freja, If we live near each other it maybe worth going together on an order to save money on delivery? I'm not sure off the top of my head what he does charge? I'm just outside of Brighton.
- By Gizmoo [gb] Date 13.09.10 13:33 UTC
Sorry Freja, I've not had my delivery yet! Ahh! Hopefully this week... We'll see.
Glad you were able to contact Scott.
- By freja [gb] Date 13.09.10 22:56 UTC
Suejaw, will send email to let him know where you are. I did tell him there was someone else in sussex interested. Perhaps he does west where you are and east where I am,on two different runs. Website makes no mention of delivery charge only minimum order of £20. Having read gizmoos post am wondering just how reliable he is for delivery. He was supposed to deliver to him end of last week!  Why don't you do what idid and phone around butchers near you and ask can you have their waste meat which will only cost few pounds. I got enough at the weekend to last a while and it was a good mix.

Gizmoo,Thanks for your help.  Did he deliver on time in the past?
- By Gizmoo [gb] Date 13.09.10 23:50 UTC
Yes he's always been spot on in the past, and ive used him since Dec last year. He did say in his email he'd probably be coming 'the end of the week'. But nothing as yet, so I assume this week now.
He's not usually this hard to get hold of, must be a busy time for him!
- By freja [gb] Date 18.09.10 17:36 UTC
gizmoo when did you finally get the meat?
- By Gizmoo [gb] Date 18.09.10 19:28 UTC

- By freja [gb] Date 19.09.10 06:59 UTC
was the end of the wek then - just didn't tell you which week! He-he.  Haven't heard from since my e.mail letting him know where I am in sussex.
