My pups start of RC puppy milk and quite happily switch over to goats milk after the first box is finished.

Ours had fresh goats milk last time, they absolutley loved it! This litter, I've got some Nutrolac which mum has been busy drinking, so hopefully there'll be plenty to last, if not I'll probably go the fresh goat's milk route again.

Hmm - sorry to semi hijack the thread (I could start a new one, but it would probably have the same title).

With my first litter I used Lactol as advised by my girl's breeder and other people in our breed.  I see three other alternatives mentioned in this thread, esbilac, RC puppy milk (I know that's the Royal Canin one) and Nutrolac.

If you'd prefer I start a new thread just let me know, but if you're happy to answer here I'd appreciate.  What are people's thoughts and experiences of the different ones available.  I'm not breeding now till next spring, but it never occurred to me to use anything other than Lactol.  Now I'm wondering if something else may be better.

Thanks

Last litter loved goats milk, this one won't touch it. Neither litter would touch any of the milky mushy food possibilities, they all wanted to get straight to small chunks of meat!

There's also Welpi and Skinners puppy milk.

Now that's just mean - giving me yet another choice LOL.

So what do you prefer and why?

I personally would only use evaporated milk! when I was a kid we had a litter of pups and often had stray very young kittens in the garden (we lived in a cat hating community and cats would just "disappear for no apparent reason" even leaving litters of kittens), the pups were found in a box, the RSPCA would never come out for the kittens and wanted to put the pps down because they said they were going to die anyway, so my mother used to get the evaporated milk because it was all she could afford, beat 2 egs mix the eggs with 1 pint of evaporated milk  and 1 pint of boiled water and out of about 6 litters of kittens we only lost 3 kittens and none of the pups! mind you 2 of the kittens were trapped in a whole that was filling with water!
