I want a complete dry to add to my dogs raw diet, and these are the best quality I could find (don't like grains). Which of the two is best?
By looking at the calories Acana is slightly lower (430 per 115g). Orijen senior is the lowest (395) and reginal red the highest (475). I guess thats bcause of the meat/veg ratio being more veg in Acana. I want a lower in fat variety, as my dog has had Pancreatitis in the past, but ok on his raw now.
I'm thinking of getting Orijen senior and Acana Greenlands, for variety! This will be used for 40/60 dry/raw, ish.
Does anyone have any pros and cons of either food? Is it ok to mix the two and use it with raw? (Not raw and dry in the same meal - one meal dry, one meal raw etc).
I am going to order the trial sizes first before I do a big order.
Thanks :o)

I feed Orijen and Acana (various varieties) as a topper to a raw diet and my dogs do very well on it. I've never had a problem mixing dry and raw in the same meal. If you are only going to try a couple of varieties I'd get the 2.5kg bags rather than the 400g trial size bag unless you've only got a tiny dog, 400g doesn't go very far.
thanks for this thread, ive been looking for a grain free kibble, too, for the same reason.do you buy yours online,or do places like pets at home stock it?ive been using arden grange up to now, been happy with it for years for my collies, but having swapped to mainly raw,and done a bit of reading,i thought id look for a grain free food. Thanks!

I actually buy it at trade prices to sell through my grooming business - I only sell what I am prepared to feed my own dogs.
Places like PAH don't seem to sell it, it's more independent pet shops/people like myself. Stockists can be found here

Thanks!
Seems it will be ok as a topper for raw. Both seem really good foods, and have great reviews. They are expensive but mine will be for only one dog, and even then not everyday - so should work out fine.
But yes I will try the 7.5 bag not 400. My dog is 50kg so doubt it would go far lol
Thanks again.

Berriewood are limited on their sizes, Acana only bags of 13.5 and Orijen is similar. Their prices are a bit lower though, so when I want larger bags Ill deffinatly look there.
I used Bern Pet foods for now.

Their breeder club is normally very good for price. Not purchased any for a while as trying to save money, but my dogs do love Orijen and would choose this themselves given half a chance.

I have recently changed to grain free and raw and bought 13.5kg orijen adult for £45.99 at ESK. They are in eastbourne and hastings, sussex. Dont deliver though. Think zooplus are cheapest on line for Orijen and Acana. The other grain free which is cheaper is Taste of the wild. Not sure who makes this, got feeling it is big company producing many different lines. Orijen and Acana are made by small family firm in Canada. Seem to remember zooplus were offering trial size of Orijen and Acana for 99p.

Thanks Freja, I'll check them out if my boy likes them :)
I don't think I'd qualify for breeders discount as I only have the one dog :( lol

just had look on pet planet and they are doing the trial sizes for 99p. Zooplus give 10% off first order which I think would probably be on lge bags though. I have 1 dog who has been really difficult to feed oncomplete dried food, she would take ages to eat even with meat added and I would finish up throwing part of it away. Since using the grain free she is finished in record time with or without the raw. I do dried a.m. and raw in the eve. Had trial size bages of the Acana and this was woofed down as well. Bought these from Bern as didn't know about 99p bags then. Am sure you will find your dog will enjoy it. The dog knew more than I did about nutrition - if only they could talk!
