Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / in season or infection

my bitch had a litter of puppies almost 9 weeks ago.
it was a fast easy birth.

she now has a discharge, it is bright red and doesnt smell. could it be an infection or could she be in season?
i read somewhere that it is normal for a bitch to have a slight discharge 5 or 6 weeks which she had, it then slowed down but has now come again quite strong.
4 or 5 patches a day when she sleeps. but when she isnt sleeping she keeps herself very clean so i dont know how much im not seeing.
we recently got an unfixed male dog as a foster before he goes to a home (where he will be fixed)  he pays a bit of attention to her but doesnt try mount her.
could it be an infection or beginning of a season already???

maybe a trip to vet in morning to check?

thanks in advance

I would think it is still the post whelping discharge, I have had it on and off until the pups are about 12 weeks old.

I wouldn't expect her next season until after the pups are around 4 months old, in fact I usually have bitches spayed at 11 - 12 weeks after whelping their last litter.

My bitch had the same off and on for about 11 weeks after her litter.  Then it suddenly just stopped.
