Hi , hoping all you ladies out there may be able to give me a bit of advice! :)
After being on one make of pill I had a sudden splurge of hair growth on my chin , and under my chin and also on my tummy under my belly button ( lovely hey! ). I tried creaming it , waxing it ( hurt a lot and made my skin sore ) and after suggestions on here decided to have laser treatment on my chin. It hasn't worked :(
It's really getting me down and i don't feel very feminine and girly anymore. Does anyone know if there's anything the doctors can give me to stop or even slow down the hair growth? I read in a mag about a bloke who wanted to be a woman and they gave him tabs to stop him growing hair - not exactly my situation I know! But was wondering if there's something similar out there?
Any help / advice is very much appreciated x
electrolosis really is the only option.
you must go back to your doctor and tell them what is happening, they may be able to give you another pill, as this happened to me and they also checked me for polystic ovaries as well as they where quite alarmed at how much hair i started to sprout, but it was just the make of pill once changed and after a few weeks it gradually subsided hope this helps someone may be able to give you better info but just to let you know that it does happen

I am hairy. :(
Over the years (I am quite old now), I have tried all things.
The most effective was laser light, but it still keeps coming.
I have told all friends and family that should I become ill and bed bound they must ensure I get a daily shave........
This is till the best way way for me sorry to say.
It is depressing, I have tried electrolysis, it really hurts and again the hair does still keep coming.
So now I have given in and accept it, and shave.
I would think you may be prone to it regardless of the pill, I had mild pcos and that is contributary too.
If any one else has anything more positive I too would love to hear.........
Karen :)
Are you still on the pill , and had you thought of coming off it if it has caused the hair growth ?
Also , i think a trip to the doc's to rule out PCOS is a good idea too .
Hope you get it sorted soon , i am heading towards a big birthday ( not to be mentioned ) and am feeling less feminine the closer it gets !

I've got pcos too and am also hairy! I use a silkepil epilator, very sore at first but now I don't really notice it. Two problems with it, ingrowing hairs and it doesn't get all the little blighters so I need to tweezer everyday too :-(

I use the silk epil on my legs, but if I leave it too long then have to brace my self for enduring it again, however if used daily it is brilliant.
Not for my facial hair though, just not that brave!!
So now I am 'over myself' quite happy to use a razor. :(

Thank you all for your helpful replies. The docs have tried me with a couple of different types of pill since this started ( due to migraines , and once because of hair ) but haven't been on the pill properly for about a year now but there is no decrease in the amount of hair i'm sprouting!
Have had my ovaries scanned before for cysts and they found one which they said is quite common and so didn't go back or anything? Maybe i should go again?
What about your Mum and other females in the family - could it be hereditary ?

oohh hair removal, dont talk to me about it lol.Being very dark i tried home waxing for the first time two days ago,oh my god, my armpits bled and bruised i had a rash that looked like cornbeef,, i was still hairy i could not get the wax off even with the wipes included andi ended up getting newfie hair stuck to the wax and looked even more like a gorrilla,
NEVER ever again

Don't think it's hereditary as mum is quite hair-less. Lucky thing!! And this only started one or two years ago and i'm now 28.

Sugar I really think you need to go back to the Dr's again as this is starting to really effect you from what you have written.
There maybe something you can take that is not over the counter, something hormonal based which could help, forget the pill itself maybe for now.
You mentioned having a cyst, is there any reason why you never got that removed? I'd get back there and get rid of it tbh..
Keep pounding the doors of the Dr's, request specialists until you have an answer and something which works.
Good Luck

I didn't get it removed because they never gave me that option , they said that it's common for most women to have the occasional cyst. Didn't even know it could be removed. Will definately go back and ask to see if there's something they can try me on. I just have a feeling i'll be told there's nothing that can be done and i'll just have to get on with it.

I would urge you to go back to the doctor. I am experiencing something very similar, my mum had PCOS, and I raised it with the nurse the last time I was there, she didn't think it was something to discuss and went on to make me feel rather rubbish about myself, my weight and my hairyness! I'm making an appoinment to see a doctor to discuss it further as it is a hereditary condition.
Good Luck x

Just wanted to say thank you to you all for pushing me to go back! :)

Just wanted to update you - doctor didn't think it was PCOS as i'm not having any of the other symptoms, but has booked me in for a blood test to check my hormone levels are normal. Am so relieved I was taken seriously , and hopefully on the way to getting it sorted!! :) Thank you everyone xx
You don't always show other symptoms. Ask them to send you to a specialist. i'm afraid from experience it the only you'll get a result.
What a GP thinks are normal blood levels, aren't to a specialist. A lot of your syptoms can be hidden or of varying degrees. Stay positive.

Our 17 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with PCO's, she too has a lot of dark hair growth, chin, neck, etc. She has seen a specialist at the hospital and has been put on Metformin and a contraceptive pill as her body needs to have a period to keep her ovaries healthy, she's also been given a tube of cream which is supposed to slow down hair growth, doctor told her to use it carefully as it costs over £50 a tube!!

Thank you everyone. Blood tests showed that my hormone levels were completely normal so the doctor has prescribed me a cream to try for 2/3 months that slows down hair growth. Am guessing it's the same one your daughter is on SharonM as the doctor's first comment was how expensive it is for the surgery to put me on it!! Fingers crossed it works :)

Just found this small article in the paper today on the health pages.
""Did you know - Fennel can stop unwanterdhair growth in women,an Iranina study has found. Fennel is rich in phyto-oestrogens which soak up excess oestrogen, restoring the body's hormone balance."""
Might be worth investigating.
