I've got a number of dog crates, but they'd grown out of them.
I've been looking online and Savic do some cheap ones, but their largest doesn't seen big enough at 46"x29"x32".
I then looked at Croft and they go all the way up to 72"x45"x48", which maybe a bit too big?? And they charge over £200 for one.
FridayAd is not giving me anything of any decent size.
Just wondered really for those with giant breeds what size you use, bearing in mind its for sleeping and the dog needs to stand, turn and lay down in it.
http://www.doghealth.co.uk/dh.htmL 47.64 W 31.10 H 33.07 for 48" JJ up/over 3 door cage + bedding + 1 x bolt on bowl. £60.00 + £7.50 p&p
I have a 36" for Zuma, not quite high enough for him to stand
right up but he is very rarely shut in, he spends quite a lot of time 'settled' in there with the door open as his own choice.

ps I tried to ring that advert twice but no answer.

We have a crate about the same size as yours.
I found that when the weather turned hot, Fergie got too hot in it, so I started leaving the door open so she could flop out on the floor.
She now just has a 'Tuffies' bed under a table in the kitchen, where the crate was and we only use the crate for camping and holidays and she seems fine with this.
Do yours need to be crated at night?

Thanks Chris
I'll try calling them tom as the prices are very good..
Just never know when a crate is needed!!!

Actually got 2 that size 1 downstairs and 1 in the spare bedroom/my workroom as he used to be shut in during the night when he was a pup. we had a 'baby' crate in the bedroom then moved him across the landing but the baby crate got too small before he was safe loose at night and it was too much hassle shifting the big one up and down as he still wasn't happy being downstairs
'all on my own' at bed time. I love these as they have an up and over door so need less space than a conventional door does. he still puts himself to bed upstairs when we go up but the door obviously is not shut now.
as you say a good price and they are pretty strong.

Chris,
After getting a tape measure out I feel I need something bigger than that, in all directions with regard the giant size.
This then causes me problems as I can only find something which is larger on Croft website for silly money.. :-(
Sue
48" appears to be the common maximum size for the cheaper ranges of crate. Showman also do 54", 60" and 72" but I think all these big sizes are pricey. See
Barjo website for details but you may want to shop around for a cheaper supplier. You might find it cheaper to get one made so could try someone like Barnesbrook or Hamster Cages.
Is there nothing on eBay at the moment?

Hi guys.
I've measured up what I need and it needs to be at least 60" in length. I've spoken to a friend who said i'd be better of getting it hand made as you said the Showman crates are very expensive..(£229 for the size i'm looking for

)
I'll make contact with the companies you mentioned to see how cheap I can get it hand made

Ok,
Called the guy from Splendid Pets as they do a 60" one which is out of stock and won't be back in until Jan 2011.
He reckons that a 54x33x36 would be suitable for my breed as Wolfie people often use them. Just wanted to know if others would use this size and also if anyone has used the above company to buy anything from.

Thanks.
The 60" on ebay i've emailed them about the height to be sure as I could collect from them - If I could win that it would be very useful.
The 54" one is the company i've mentioned above which is where I got their details from.
I've got the tape measure out on my boy and he keeps scooting as he hates the sound of it, bless him. Need to know what he measures laying out flat and the 60" would be the best option for him.

Just won that on ebay!!! Collect soon.. Yippeee.
5ftx4ftx4ft... Nice...

That's a big crate! Does it have an ensuite? ;)
Well done Sue - ebay is very handy sometimes. Oh and btw I'll bet we can guess what cats your seller had in there!!

Hehe, yup, she's stopped breeding now so she is selling a lot of cat items and more to come on shortly she said. She is expecting very very soon, hence the need for space..
I'm keeping an eye out on what she puts on as you never know

> If you are getting one handmade try hamster baskets http://www.hamsterbaskets.co.uk/baskets.html?gclid=CLyKqMSj16MCFREB4wod2xNctQ
I know you've bought the ebay one, but I second the recommendation for Hamsterbaskets. They custom built my car cage and even built me a platform for it. I've gone to them for a couple of other things to do with display stands. As they say, if you can draw it they can make it. They're easy to work with and very reasonably priced. So if anyone else is looking for similar sizes they're worth contacting.

I got my huge and smaller cages from the link below. They really are top quality and thier customer service and delivery is very good and prices very cheap.

What I have noticed is that made to measure ones are more expensive than the ones already made to go.
Also most of these companies don't do crates really that are large enough for large/giant dogs as i've come across.
There appear to be only a couple of companies which have them ready made in a very large size, one is currently out of stock until Jan 2011 and the other is over £200....
The perils of owning a large or in crate size giant breed dog.

Gutted :-(
Picked up the crate, owner/seller not around. Thought it looked a bit small as I had borrowed a 4X4 to pick it up.
Measured it and it's only 4ft x under3ft x under3ft..
That is a lot of money for that size crate, as I could of got that size elsewhere for cheaper.
Sent seller email about this to see if I was given the wrong crate..
If not then i'll be seeking some form of refund, its too small for my boy.. :-(

Well you would have expected that they could use a measuring tape! Typical! Hope it was simply the wrong one or that they give you a refund!

Yup, she only guessed the size of the crate. She has offered a refund..
My search continues for a GIANT crate
>Yup, she only guessed the size of the crate. She has offered a refund..
Sue how did you pay? Don't forget to ask for your petrol costs to be covered. Keep a record of emails - even if it just to confirm what was agreed in person or over the telephone. If she doesn't agree to pay your out of pocket expenses then log a complaint via eBay, particularly if you paid via Paypal, as they sometimes give compensation as well as the original amount paid.
What a silly woman! Good luck with your search
By the way, keep an eye open for specialist in car crates - you sometimes see these in bigger sizes for vans and they might be a good option for you as they can be difficult to sell if the car models are older.

This is an
angled car crate so prob not what you want BUT it's 61" long so it's obviously possible to find bigger crates if you widen your search to include ones custom made for large vehicles. Ooh - this one would fit under the stairs as it has a door at both ends, what a great idea
BTW remember to search for dog CAGE on eBay, as well as crate, you find loads more pop up!

All done through paypal.. Keeping all emails logged either personal or on eBay itself.
I'll be asking for fuel money too, before I head up there..

Cages, crates also car related ones will be checked tomorrow.
Anyone know a link to the agility site where people are selling their cage systems?

I had a dispute settled through paypal a wee while ago and although it took time there was no great hassle, but it sounds like she will give refund ok.
