Topic Dog Boards / General / Friends dog that is acting anxious at night or early evening

Hi, Please can anybody give advice I can pass onto a friend. Her dog is 16. Over the past few months he is acting odd. He scratches at the doors constantly, yelps, and barks. He is fairly normal of a day and this behaviour only happens when my friend leaves him for bed. I believe it is some form of seperation anxiety. He appears a healthy dog. He is exercised regularly. She even gives a good late night walk in the hope of tiring him out. It does not work. Please can anyone offer tips or recommend medication that can help relax him and give her a goon night sleep. this thread may help as with your friends dogs age it seems more likely than suddenly starting separation anxiety, her vet should be able to help and advise.
