I have two very strong dogs that are walked using headcollars, a dogmatic for my girl (synthetic leather version) and a gentle leader for my boy. Often when returning from our daily walks I notice on my girl especially the fur on her nose has been rubbed. However, yesterday we took a trip to the lake district, took the dogs to an agricultural show and then on the local walks so they were in their headcollars virtually all day and both of them have now got thin bald patches across there nose where the headcollars were sat. Are there any versions out there that perharps offer more padding across the face to help prevent this. Although the dogs seem fine having the fur rubbed off their nose can't be comfortable for them.

I use the padded web dogmatic and that didn't rub but made a ridge of flat fur so I have stitched a piece of fleece material over the nose band and there are no marks or indentation of hair so I can go straight into the ring when I take it off.

moleskin as per corn plasters cures the problem

I use Dajan's  http://www.dajan.co.uk/Halters.html headcollars on 4 out of 5 of my Elkhounds daily and no sign of rub marks

Thanks for the replies, think I might try the dajan head collars brainless I can't believe how reasonable they are price wise!

exactly for that price I can get them for all 5 dogs for the price of the halti or gentle leader.  No plastic catches to fiddle with, trap hair or break.  Just a metal slider to adjust the neck strap.
