Are there smokers in the house?

Smoking would be my first thought too. I know somebody who had both dogs and cats die from nasal tumours and I know I have read there can definitely be a link there as well with smoking. They say breeds with shorter faces are more likely to be affected but I'm not sure if that is a myth.

Here is a link about second hand smoke and how it can cause cancer to our pets.

My thought also is that tumours in the lungs can often be secondary tumours, so it could be that there was a primary tumour elsewhere but not advanced enough to cause symptoms, the lung tumours show symptoms quite quickly, like coughing and breathing issues so it may not have been the lungs that were the initial illness, if that makes sense. The xrays are taken of the lungs because of signs and the tumours are found in the lungs but if no xray was taken further down the stomach you wouldnt know if there was anything else. Either way you couldnt have done anymore for your girl and done the kindest thing for her, sorry for your losses recently, i know all too well its very tough x

The lungs are a common site for metastases, so the primary tumour may well have been elsewhere, and the tumours on the lungs affected the body to the extent that the dogs died.

An organism will live with tumours until these interfere with the organisms ability to continua to function.

This is why some cancers can be very advanced before giving many symptoms of their presence.

Thats what i put too Barbara, lungs are so common for the secondaries so this could have been the case.

While I fully appreciate the fact that people blame smoking as a cause of cancer, I have never, ever had an animal with cancer.  And I have owned a lot of animals for well over 40 years.

I smoked my last cigarette at 5pm on Monday 28th July 2008.   And I still want one.

I smoked 60 a day.  As I said, I have never had an animal with cancer, and have often smoked while grooming.
