i don't know about changing the diet but i would be back to the vets depending on how long they said it would take to clear up.
if your worried give them a ring and see if they want to take another look.
I have a breed that can suffer from yeast infections. I use the MalAcetic Octic ear cleaner, it is for dogs who suffer from yeast infections you can buy it online from Hyperdrug/canine chemist. I do not put it directly into the ear but on a cotton wool pad and clean the ears this way it helps keep things under control. But if you see any signs of irritation on the skin stop using it, I have not had any problems like this when I have used it on mine.
Diet can sometimes help to keep things under control although generally if a dog is diagnosed with this problem (i.e..Mallessezia) which can be the cause of other underlying skin problems. I stick to just a fish or lamb diet avoid chicken and beef at all costs. Fish4dogs do a great complete food this is also were I get their treats from.
I would stick with the shampoo the vet gave you which I am guessing is Malaseb using it on the affected areas a couple of times a week can help but if the infection isnt showing any signs of clearing up I would take him back to the vets. I have heard of a very good cream which I am going to try called Dermacton cream which is supposed to be excellent might be worth giving that a try if nothing else works?
Was told that some complete foods high in protein can cause problems...
Not sure how true this is or not.
I always try to feed mine a hypo-allergenic complete.
However have had some success with Dorwest Herbs Garlic and Fenugreek tablets.
Combined with JWB but the meat and vegetable variety (the one without rice)
With malaseb (assuming that's what you've been prescribed) you have to do it regulary as prescribed.
How often in the week have you been told to do this?
Might also be worth trying to boost his immune system, some also say that
pre and pro biotics can help.
Some yeast infections can cause secondary infections on the skin and may need antibiotics.
So you may need another visit to the vet especially if he's miserable and unable to weight bear.
Hi thanks for your post, was told to use malaseb shampoo every day and have been doing, however I have been giving him pro biotic yoghurt in his feed and he seems to have perked up abit his foot seems to be getting better allbeit slowly will persevere with it. hopefully will get there in the end. am taking him back to vets this week if no further improvement.
