has anyone fed whole fresh mackeral, guts and all, i have fed sardines like this but never mackeral

Fresh whole mackerel is far too good for the dogs! Throw it my way if you have too many, please! it's my very very favourite fish!!

On topic, no - I haven't fed whole mackerel - they don't make it past me - but have also fed sardines and sprats. I would de-scale the fish before feeding but in theory can't see why not. I have sometimes fed the raw heads & tails of fresh mackerel to my dog & cat.

I have fed whole mackerel to my dogs - I don't bother taking the scales off but I did remove the fins as they were rather sharp. One dog loved them the other wasn't keen.

I feed mackeral regularly but we do remove the guts only because I know what happened when I fed herrings whole (both dogs regurgitated them simultaneously....gross doesn't even come close to describing the scene...) so I don't take the chance with any whole fish now.  I'm sure some dogs are fine with the guts though.

I have fed raw salmon heads to my dog before and asked the fishmonger to cut out the teeth --- salmon have a ferocious set of gnashers which were not easy to remove with a normal kitchen knife or scissors.

Hahaha! Perhaps seaside dogs become a bit immune - well, not much can compete with a week-old rotting cuttlefish....

Oh that period in spring when they come inshore to mate and then die in their hundreds, can't take the dogs to some beaches for weeks even their digestion can't cope.

My boy loves raw salmon heads....the crunching turns my stomach though so I make him take it down the garden where I don't have to witness or listen to the carnage.  Never thought about the teeth but they haven't caused him any problem (mind you, he inhales gis grub so fact that I doubt he even realises that it has teeth...)

I've been bitten by a salmon head those teeth are sharp!! I've had regurgitated mackerel too NOT pleasant!!

Mine get any raw fish, always gutted though nothing else, they love it.

I feed raw mackeral when I can get hold of it and it is cheap!

i feed whole mackeral when I get it reduced at the supermarket off the fish counter.  Sometimes as little at 25p each.  They eat the whole thing but have noticed my rotty who eats in a flash throws it back up in minutes unless I chop it up and make her eat it slower!
