Probably a strange question, but I've been googling all day and I can't find anything specifically relevant.

I will be taking 2 of my dogs to Sweden next spring in order to breed one to a Swedish dog (the other is coming for Company).  I'm in the process of getting their passports in order, and mentally preparing for the trip - checking routes etc.

I generally feed my girls raw with some kibble.  I have no problem in theory bringing kibble and perhaps buying some raw wings or something from supermarkets or butchers to supplement them but the bitch I'm planning to breed from can be fussy when travelling.

Anyone who travels with their dogs to the continent (either caravanning or whatever) do you know of a site where I can check what I can bring.  I'm assuming I can't bring any raw meat, but can I bring dog food or will that be classed as a meat product and be taken off me?  I also know anything can be subject to change, but even if someone could point me to a website I can bookmark (in addition to sharing personal experience) I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

This is the page you want:
http://www.sjv.se/swedishboardofagriculture.4.6621c2fb1231eb917e680002462.html but I can't find anything on it that mentions just food for your own pets, only importing to sell.

In reality, you are very unlikely to have anything checked at all -you'll be lucky if you can find somebody who even wants to check the pets passport to be honest. What way are you arriving? Assume you're driving? What part of Sweden are you going to?

If you normally feed raw, as an alternative Nature Diet is available in Swedish petshops but beware, everything costs a fortune.

We took a dog over in 2008, nobody wanted to check the passport, had the car full of dog food -no problem. Happens all the time. (I am Swedish so go over a lot, although not that often with dogs.)

We're taking the car, planning to take the train/channel tunnel, so more concerned about the initial entry into France.

Nature Diet is a good alternative, and certainly after the first day or two I'd need to buy fresh anyway if I was going to be feeding raw.  I was just a bit concerned that I might not even get away with dry complete.  I suppose worst case scenario we bring in a little bit in a cooler and if it gets taken off us it does, but I'd rather not cause problems if you know what I mean.

Our final destination in Sweden is Orebro (sorry I can't make the little dots over the 'e').  We'll be travelling through France, Germany, crossing at Puttgarden to Denmark and then either taking the bridge or the other ferry from Denmark to Sweden.

Thanks for your response.  Like I said I'm probably worrrying over nothing, but I just like to be prepared... :)

I travel to shows in Northern Europe and have travelled by tunnel, ferry to France and Holland. No one has ever checked the dogs or our dog food on the way out. On return they have only ever checked the dogs chips/passports on . We always take food, dry complete and packs of Nature Diet to last the trip. Not considerd taking fresh meat due to issue of keeping it chilled.

Don't think you will have any problems, a trade stand at Paignton was from Europe (Germany?) I got a variety of treats/chews from them and they must have travelled with their stock into Uk. Also UK dog food companies exhibit in Europe .. the UK Fish 4 Dogs stand was at Amsterdam Winners in 2009 and again must have travelled with stock.

As Marianne has already said, you don't have to show anything coming to Sweden.
And should you happen to get stopped for a routine check, all you need is the Pet Passport in order.
You can bring any product to Sweden, unless in quantities that are obviously not for personal use.

Now I'm intrigued, will have to look around websites and try to think of which dog you're going to use ;-)
