Any advice please.
My sister has a flat in a council block in London which she bought years ago.
Now she wants to sell up and come home, question is is it better for to spend money and do it up or sell it as it is?
She is nervous of bringing in the estate agents yet as she wonders how biased their views are.
Karen

I wouldn't spend a fortune on it - not a new kitchen and bathroom like some people do, because the new buyers will only rip it out - but certaily redecorate, get the carpets cleaned etc.

It would probably be woth her while making that enquiry with a local estate agent. They will know the market and will be able to advise her what changes she could make to make it stand out over other flats in the area.

we've moved lots of times over the years and always given the place a good freshen up before putting on the market.
i would check with an estate agent what they think needs doing but the least i would do is put a lick of neutral paint every where, make sure carpets are clean and the place is tidy. things like bathrooms being clean and kitchens makes a big difference when they look round.
Best of luck with the sale.
I used to work in residential sales and i agree, just give the place a lick of neutral colour paint and remove any clutter and personal items such as photographs. People can better see themselves living somewhere where there aren't photos of the present owners about. Also remove any items of furniture that make rooms seem a bit like an obstable course so that potential purchasers can just walk through easier, makes the place look bigger that way. Also, look on www.rightmove.com and you can search for prices that are being asked for properties in the area at the moment. Hope that helps. Good luck!
Agree with bear, we always give it a lick of pain a deep cleanse clean and that attracts people. The walls are white, all the floors are laminated and its spotless, sells them much quicker.
