I have not used it and I personally wouldn't use it.   I would just advise keeping a bitch fit , healthy and not over weight , the best recipe for easy whelping.

Agree with Blue.  I prefer to ensure that bitches are fit for whelping, and have never used supplements of any kind.  JMHO

Hi
I'm giving it to my girl at the moment, she's due on Sunday. From what I can gather it's got calcium and natural sugars which are given at the optimum time to the greatest benefit. I don't know if it will have much bearing on the outcome, but I don't have a problem giving it to her.

BTW she is very fit, not overweight and healthy, I just don't think it'll do any harm and may just be beneficial.

I think the problem most people see is why over supplement a bitch that is receiving a perfect balanced diet.

Years ago I used Rasberry leaf stupidly I might add with terrible consequences.

I am not in the least comfortable with giving calcium to a bitch, not with some of the stories I've heard.

Used raspberry leaf back in the 70's after advice from my, then, mentor.  But I've never used it since.

It's my understanding that calcium supplements if given should only be given
after the bitch has whelped and not prior.

Have heard mixed things re raspberry leaf...used it once on one bitch not sure it made
any difference.

I would add that you only start giving Easy Whelp for the last 10 days of pregnancy, and carry on until 10 days post whelp. although I have not given any calcium  throughout the pregnancy, I have heard that given in the last week can be beneficial. It can also be used to strengthen contractions in a slow whelping bitch.

I would say that she seems much brighter at this stage of the pregnancy than she did last time, she has around 2 days or so to go and is still wanting to go out for short walks, is still eating, and wagging her tail. Her milk is in now and her stomach massive, so I'm sure it's not long...

I saw what having a large litter took out of her last time, and although we don't yet know for sure how many are in there, I didn't think it would be any harm helping her along a little.

I haven't ever used Rasberry Leaf as I've heard differing experiences so have steered clear. I know some swear by it.

whts wrong with supplementing calcium?  i used a liquid calcium suplement everday for my bitch from mating as reccomended by my mentor (also stud owner).  the puppies are now 7 weeks old and look great. the pregancy was a breeze, pups were out with 18-30 minute gaps.

See here http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_care_of_the_pregnant_dog.html

Was told not to supplement calcium at a breed seminar that I went to many years ago, been to
a few since and all say not to supplement with calcium before whelping.
For the same reasons as per the links shown.

Know that of old breeders would give calcium to prevent pre-eclampsia.
