Hi , I have a litter of pups due in 3 weeks and want to start getting ready for the arrival . I have decided that I need a really good ' spring ' clean and would like to find something that I can use on all my floors , woodwork , walls etc as well as out on the patio . After doing an internet search and looking on the forums , I seem to have brought it down to two .. Safe4pets and Odourfresh . Does anyone know if there is a real difference between the 2 , or should either do the job .
Thanks ,
Vicky

Not used safe4pets but I have used Mistral Odour Fresh disinfectant for years. It is effective against Parvo,Salmnelle,MRSA,E-coli etc. It smells nice and does not break the bank :)

I use Mistral odourfresh, I love the smell and it is a Parvocide too... I have occasionally used Safe4pets, but in a spray bottle and use the same as you would use Febreeze, spray on curtains, furniture etc... and Clothes :-)

I've used Safe4pets for over 9 years now.
Very happy with both the disinfectant and their odour killer.
The disinfectant is effective against viruses inc Hepatitus, herpes, canine parvo virus, avian flu
Bacteria inc salmonella typhimurium, E-Coli, Listeria, Campylobacter, clostridium, pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococcus aureus, MRSA.
Fungi including candida albicans, trichophyton spp, microsporum spp.
The disinfectant is aldehyde, phenol and alcohol free.
Dilution depends on what job you want to do but ranges from 1:10 to 1:200
It's also DEFRA approved.
Comes in different fragrances, I like the freshmint and the apple.
It comes in odourless too.
Not sure what the price difference between the two is.
:) Thumbs up here for Safe4
I buy it in 5 litre containers and dilute down myself depending on what job I want it to do.
I use it both in and outdoors (on my shingle and patio)
It would appear that Mistral is cheaper - & this doesn't contain phenols, bleaches or pine oils.
I can't find if it contains aldehyde or alcohol.
It also appears to have a much wider variety of fragrances too.

Thanks everyone , the only difference so far I can see is that Safe4pets is DEFRA approved , whereas the Odourfresh isn't ( or at least I can't find anywhere that says it is ) . The odourfresh is considerably cheaper but obviously cheaper is only good if it works ( which evidence suggests it does ) Does anyone know if these can only be bought online , or do any of the big pet shops or anywhere actually stock them ?
Thanks again,
Vicky
Some pet shops sell Safe4 but it's already at the diluted stage and in a spray bottle.
So it would work out more expensive this way.
I tend to buy Safe4 direct and it's a very quick turn around they send out the same day.
I normally get mine the next day :) So can't fault the customer service.
I don't know re Mistral I've certainly never seen it at any of the local pet stores in my area.
I've not noticed it at Ch shows, but there may be some stands that have a supply.

It is approved to BS6424
http://mistral.ieThey have increased their range since my last purchase so worth looking to see what is available.
Bubblegum for me everytime :)
> I buy Mistral on ebay. Have to say that I have tried loads of the "smells" but love the spearmint and eucalyptus best
Oooh didn't realise they did that one, thanks Jean I'll be looking out for that one. :-)

My vets have just offered to let me have some of their disinfectant which I think they called Vercom ( or vercon or something like that ) which they will mix up to the correct dilution for me ... not sure what it smells like but at least I could get started now and then wait for my delivery of the Odourfresh .... thanks for all your helpful comments :o)
it's Virkon,
Be careful as it bleaches so you can't spray it on carpet ;)
This one is a powder that you dissolve, goes a pink colour when dissolved (looks a little like hibiscrub
in colour).

Ah , thankyou , so the Odourfresh is my better bet I think as I want to be able to spray carpet , furniture , bedding etc

Yes , couldn't resist giving that one a go ! Have gone for 1 x baby powder , 1 x lemon , 1 x vanilla and 1 x cherry ....

I found that the Lemon one isn't very good, the best of the ones I tried (Lemon Cherry floral and bubblegum) was the floral and bubblegum.

was that because of the smells ? I wonder if I could change the order ( was done through ebay in the end )

found that the lemon didn't give a nice after smell.

Same with the orange, I was disappointed with that one

I was going to give the Mint and the Eucalyptus ones a try next time

mint is lovely I use it as an air freshener around the house

Right that one will be added to my next order, as I get four, any other recommendations?
Fragrances I see are:
BABY POWDER (NEW)
ORANGE (NEW)
COCONUT (NEW)
LAVENDER (NEW)
SPEARMINT (NEW)
CINNAMON (NEW)
PINEAPPLE
BUBBLEGUM
PEAR DROP
FLORAL
EUCALYPTUS
PEACH
VANILLA
CHERRY
I've never used this before but am about to order some up so will welcome suggestions on fragrances too :) The pear drop sounds lovely!
How does this work in terms of spraying rugs etc? Do you just make up a dilute solution and spray?

We didn't like the lemon, pineapple and eucalyptus ones for the same reason Brainless gave but loved the bubblegum/cherry ones. The peach was rather to peachy if you know what I mean :) Baby Powder & Spearmint sound interesting.

Didnt like coconut , orange or lemon pinapple. They either smelt funny to me or fine in the concentrate but the smell didnt linger and I like things to smell fresh after I have used them.
Does the baby powder hang around for abit. I have a yankee candle in baby powder and its lovely,
Oh and yes I just make up a soloution and spray away. anything in the way gets sprayed LOL

My favourites are pear drops and bubblegum. I am not keen on the vanilla despite loving vanilla and the pineapple is nice but doesn't last long. I use it everwhere! I use a glug of it in the washing machine to wash the dogs bedding, use it to wash my floors and very diluted on my worktops. It works magic in the car like a febreze type product - the list goes on and on. I think my next order will definitely have some of the baby powder one in it, if it smells like the yankee candles it will be lovely.

The one that I really didn't like was the peach, it was sickly.

A lady near me acts as an agent for Mistral's OdourFresh and gave a sample to the kennels...it was baby powder and it is a pleasant but very strong (made me sneeze :-) ) BUT after a bit it wasn't quite so strong. The fragrance lasted for ever. We have a dog on pancreatic powders and her wee and poo smell like dirty cat box....I used some of this diluted in a mop bucket and it got rid of the smell for the rest of the day.
I even put a small amount in a bowl of boiling water to use as an air freshener in the morning if the dogs have been really dirty...works a treat.

Right thanks Freewayz baby powder is going on the next order , with spearmint and maybe bubblegum since everyone is raving about it
