Does anyone know how accurate these tests are? My bitch is on day 12 of her season. She had her 3rd test yesterday which still showed she is not ovulating. The colour is very slightly paler blue than 1st test, the 2nd test was the same as this. I'm very confused as I have a neutered male in the house and my bitch is constantly presenting herself to him as though she's ready. Is it possible she may not ovulate at all even though she's behaving like a 'tart'. Do not want to go to the stud dog if this is the case, as it's costing alot of money!

The ones that give exact readings are very accurate and reliable (ELISA tests) done at a laboratory.

The in-house colour change ones like 'Premate' ones are good give or take a day, but not good enough for AI for example.

Bitches will often stand for other bitches and neutered males before they will stand for a male for actual mating, and many, especially those who have had pups before will stand sooner than they are actually ready.

Also bitches can fail to ovulate or maintain sufficient hormone levels to maintain a pregnancy causing them to miss.

Thanks for the info. Taking her to be tested again tomorrow which will be her 14th day, so we'll just have to wait and see!

The dog that's staying with us at the moment has been trying to mate her this afternoon and she's quite accepting, so have had to separate them now.

I've also noticed the bleeding has subsided too.

Never had this confusion with my 1st bitch but then I never blood tested in those days, and we had 3 successful litters..must have been lucky.

Don't be too worried it will happen, they are all different. I have a bitch that was ready on day 35!!!!!! that is the latest one i have ever heard of and she went on to have a lovely healthy litter.

35!....that must be a record. I'm just hoping she will ovulate. Got a top stud waiting and don't want to miss.

All's well. Tested today and is showing pale blue which indicates she's ovulating now. Going to mate tomorrow (hopefully) and again Sunday.
Just have to wait and see how it goes now.

Remember that the eggs won't be ripe for about two days after ovulation, and be fertilisable for another 2 days approximately, so don't be surprised if she or the dog are not interested just yet.
