My 6 week singleton is a fairly good eater if it's chicken, fish, steak, or (sometimes scrambled egg). Soaked kibble and puppy pouches originally were reluctantly eaten if I handfed, but the last few days she won't touch it no matter how hard I try to persuade her. She won't touch goats milk, rice pudding, Weetabix in goats milk, or anything milky. She is still feeding a bit from Mum though she is getting a bit reluctant. I'm a bit worried that fish & steak don't really constitute a balanced diet. Should I keep persevering with dog food alternating with stuff she will eat in the hope she develops a taste for it, put the onesie on Mum to stop her suckling to make her hungry enough to eat dog food (I tried that yesterday for a whole day before I cracked) or just feed the stuff she does eat and worry about getting her onto dog food in another few weeks?

She's got you well trained, hasn't she ;-) At her age she needs to eat, so anything is better than nothing. I have never given my dogs any milky meals, and wouldn't give weetabix as there is no real value in doing so. I would add the food she does eat to a little bit of soaked kibble (well soaked so it is spongy) and gradually reduce the 'human' type food. :-)

I tried that, mixed it really well in, she picked out the fish and left the kibble. She really has me wound round her little paw already doesn't she!

Dry up her mother and even then expect a cavalier puppy to only start really eating around 6-7 weeks.

A singleton has no feeding competition so may be a lazy feeder.

She'll eat very well as long as it's something she fancies... I'll be a bit stricter stopping Ellie feeding her during the day then.

Oh for heaven's sake, she doesn't want fish or chicken anymore. We're down to just casserole steak.... Any more of this silliness and it's kibble or nothing! My friend's reminded me a lot of puppies aren't keen on JWB, though the adults love their JWB adult food, so I will try a different brand too.

She is playing you up, hard I know but put it down if she walks away pick it up and in the fridge - put it down at he next meal and repeat until she eats - change the food when you think it needs it of let Mum eat it - pups mum not yours.

She's just not hungry enough, mum is still fairly happy to feed in short bursts. Oh well, I'm sure she'll work it out eventually - it's more the annoyance of lovingly preparing her food than any major worries over nutrition!

I meant that I am reasonably sure that she is getting proper nutrition as mum is still helping out, not that I didn't care whether she was! :-p
