What does everyone use?

I normally use frontline for my adults but have been growing increasingly uneasy about this after a few people have mentioned rather worrying side effects.

Litter is only 4wks at moment and most are around 1kg mark.

Thanks in advance.

Do they have fleas? If not, there's no need to treat them; avoid putting unnecessary chemicals on them. If they have then Frontline spray is probably the safest.

No, no fleas and mother (and all others) have all been treated so no reason to believe they will have - certainly no signs.

Do have some frontline spray so can use that if necessary...although hopefully won't have to!

Thanks :-)

I'd never flea treat puppies, there just is no need if they don't have them. In fact it's been years since any of my dogs has had any flea treatment and they haven't had fleas. :)

I wouldn't dream of treating puppies for fleas - unless I had evidence that they actually had them. Glad to say that has never happened. I don't believe in using chemicals unnecessarily :)

ditto ridgie lover...why would you treat them if they dont have them???

Same as rest, don't put horribly harsh chemicals into these very young bodies!

I don't even frontline my pups before they leave home.  I don't ever use spot on, but keep Frontline spray in - just in case it's ever needed.

I have blasted the odd tick with it when the big dogs have been out in the forest, but I just rarely need to use anything at all.

Thanks for all your replies....I am just a worrier I suppose, it was one of those things which came to me in the middle of the night  when I was thinking about worming the puppies the following day and frontlining the adults (just normal routine treatment)  and my brain went into overdrive with 'what if's'.... and then went off at a tangent.

Going to look into herbal treatments for adults - really not happy using frontline now - Have got lots of it at the moment so will use that but then change.

I wouldn't flea treat pups, never had to. I use Dorwest Garlic & Fenugreek in my dogs breakfasts on a daily basis. Fleas hate garlic!

Agreed and the amount of people who enquire after puppies asking "have they been wormed and flea'd?"  grrrr

I don't use Frontline at all - the spot ons bother my allergies, and for the past 20 odd years we have used Program tablets once a month (or supposed to be once a month).  They sterilise the flea so once it bites it can't reproduce.  I think in the last 10 years I've seen 3 fleas total.

Because we use this I'm even more secure if/when we have pups because if the odd flea did get on them it's most likely bit an adult first.

Like I said I've not seen many fleas at all.

I do have Frontline spray (must check date) for the odd time we get a tick, but even then we've been very lucky and not had many.

I have recently used Frontline spray on my litter. Neither the bitch or our other dog had fleas but we have 3 cats and I think the pups probably got them via them - that combined with the very warm / muggy weather we are suffering at the moment.....
