Topic Dog Boards / General / Are there different rules for guide dogs?

Yesterday I was in my local PAH and there were a couple there with guide dogs being trained , one nine months and the other nine weeks.
The reason I'm asking the question is with the puppy being only 9 weeks I asked the gentleman if the puppy had had all of his injections , he said there were different rules for guide dogs and they got their injections early. If so when would the first injection be , and when the second , and do they have to be kept in for seven days after last injection.
I'm just curious to know , I wish I'd gone into further detail when talking to the handler , as I am interested ( or maybe just nosey ).

Guide dog puppies get an extra vaccination because they go to their puppy walkers at 6 weeks old, and usually have three vaccinations in total, one at 6 weeks, then the usual one at 8 weeks and final one at 10 weeks.

So does that mean the puppy wouldn't of been fully covered. I would of thought there were special rules to abide by , being a trainer of guide dogs. I do think it's crucial that they have early socialization , but I would hate to think it was putting a puppy at risk of catching diseases.

Went to a talk a few years back about the new (then) vaccine where the final vaccine was given at 10 weeks.  One of the speakers was from GBA, and they said that the organisaiton feel that the need to optimitse of the early socialiasation during the vital 6 to 12 week period was an over -riding consideration in their case, and that pups are out an about as soon as 1st vaccination is given - they also said they were not advocating this as a general rule, but it was essential for their pups.

The pups are carried out and about by the puppy walker until after the second vaccine, the same as any other pup should be, and so are at no greater risk than any other.
