One of my bitches had a litter 16 weeks ago and she is 5 this year :)  She ovulated late at day 19.  The levels went up very slowly then just shot up quickly.

My other bitch didn't ovulate at all through her last season, well at least while she was bleeding, but this season she has.  We had her swab tested at day 8 as we didnt have any days to go on because of no ovulation last season, and she was no where near.  We went back for a swab on 14 and she was just on the border, as her blood was going paler, so we went on day 18 and 20 with a proven stud dog for matings.

I'd not give up hope yet but I'd get her swabbed every couple of days now cos things might change quickly and you dont want to miss it.  Alot of bitches ovulate when the bleeding stops.

wow Trialist thats amazing :)  How many pups did your bitch have?

But they can change from season to season! Sadly nothing is set in stone, so it may be for the OP that the bitch hasn't yet reached the right stage :-)

She had 6 fabulous pups ... 3 of each, they'll be 6 weeks tomorrow. There are a few bitches out there who have NOT read The Book of the Bitch, my girly being one of them :-), and keep their owners on their toes!

Pah, tried to edit my post as I realised you were the OP and got timed out! Sorry.

Was editing to say: I hadn't expected my girly to be as late as this, especially as she'd already half-heartedly mated around day 14. It was purely by chance I decided to try her again later on and I could have, and very very nearly did, missed this very late mating. I should have been on a course in which case I would have missed the opportunity totally.  I am soooooo glad it was cancelled at last minute.

Anyway, it was just a thought!

I also know of someone this year who had apparently normal matings at a 'traditional' time with a bitch and then an accidental mating when they thought the season had passed. The pups arrived from the second mating.

Yeay, there are a few clever ones out there then ... refuse to 'conform' and refuse to read The Book of the Bitch!! :-) :-)

I had a bitch, not the same breed as Briedog mate on day 31, we did not know this had happened as she looked as though she had come out of season, had a large litter for the breed as well.

You can never tell when a bitch needs to be mated even when the signs look as though they are totally out of season.  If she is showing signs of interest at being mated I would be taking her now and for as long as possible to the stud dog myself.   Especially as this breed is extremely fit and her her grandma lived to 15 I have no doubt that she will have absolutely no problems at having a litter at 5 years as she is still young in reality compared to many breeds of the same age.

> But they can change from season to season!

Agree totally on this one.  I had a girl that wasn't interested in her suitor days 12-14 so took her back on day 19.  Just the one cover, and she took.

I was gobsmacked that she stood on day 8 for her 2nd litter.  Again, she took.  They love running rings round us.

Never say never.

As much as you think she might be 'over' or she wont mate very late, she might think very differently. With my girl I didn't blood test, though vet did suggest I should ... can you imagine the cost? First test was recommended for day 7, then every 3 days .... until day 27!! She mated daily day 27-31.

If you have access to the stud dog and there is no issue going to him, then go as many times as you need to check when they both think the time is right.

It may be that she wont mate late, but on the other hand ... she might not have read the books either!!  Good luck and hope all works out - you must keep us updated! :-)

miss the boat once again

tangle was 7,4 on day 12 which i didnt know got result back on day 13.
in that time went to the stud dog on day 12/13 lots of action  no mating on the way home on day 13 got the result that it was 7.4
retested her on day 15 38.4 yesterday.

so now i know that she is a day 15/16 like her mum.
so next time my boy would have been health tested finger cross he ok.miss out by 3 week to a year for his tests.

did done idexx the last three season with and on and around day 11/12 she been 7 to 7,4 so with the result i got over the last 18months that will give me a guildline now
you need a window open score of 20 to 60 to get your bitches  with the idexx testing
