Good luck to anyone who is showing there this year!!
Decided that I really didn't want to be making the journey there this year..
i couldn't make my mind up whether to get up and 2am or stop over, costing more money. Have reserved a room for consideration lol. If I had proper sleep would just drive down lol.

We got first in yearling, but very low entries for us....
Only about a hour away, so a nice local jaunt for us :)
Got BOB! But the entry was teeny. The classification for my breed is so poor most people have given up the drive for it.

I am there today...my breed has a very good entry of 220 entries, giving an average entry of nearly 14 a class.

Have never been to this show which woudl count as local, as it is Midweek in the middle of the holiday season and we don't have CC's.
I had a great time. Lovely venue but could have had more variety for a drink (coffee lol).
What got me not just here but most shows. How many owners don't like their dogs mixing with humans or other dogs. What happened to socialisation. A dog went to sniff me his owner pulled him back and told him to leave alone, he wasn't a nuisance. So I was a little naughty and went and spoke to said dog, giving him a little pat and a chat. The dog loved and he was only a pup.
It would save the dog becoming aggressive or unruly at shows. We were housed near two dogs that were aggressive to anything that passed them and managed to demoish their benching. The owners were to say idiots. They were frightening the little dogs and many big ones, even lunging at them.

I'm always very cautious who I allow to approach my dog (other dog wise) as I have been unfortunate to have had my pup attacked more than once out of walks (I now carry a ball launcher with me and have had to use it to beat a dog off before). At shows I am always courteous but very wary as you can never tell which dog may go for your dog. Luckily my pup is very easy going and will be everyones "friend"!
I really liked Paignton, it was a nice atmosphere and a lovely venue.
I had a good day yesterday and won minor puppy dog!

> told him to leave alone, he wasn't a nuisance
The only problem is with this is that if the dog/pup thinks its ok to say hello to all dogs then you could end up with a situation. My boy wants to do this also, but not every dog wants to say hello to him and the last thing I need is another dog going for him, and generally at Ch shows they are large powerful dogs (Working and Pastoral). So unless we are actually doing a proper meet and greet I tend to keep him away from others if I can.
I agree but I was on my own. The girls were in the trolly and the boy never got up, he just had a sniff. He was very well behaved.

Have to also add, if I am walking along and my pup pulls to go towards someone or another dog I automatically say "leave" - not to be offensive to person but because I want my pup to be well mannered and keep himself to himself until he is given the permission to say hello.
i agree not all dogs or owners want another dog sniffing their dog even if both are friendly best to be safe than sorry not all dogs LOVE other dogs

I dont tend to let my dog approach strangers unless they look dog friendly, you'd be surprised how many people will push (or even kick - gently!!!) away a dog that approaches them at a show. I'd rather my dogs not approach people than get then upset by a rude person. And I generally only let them play with dogs I know to be friendly, I dont tend to let them play with strange dogs. All of mine spent most of the day playing with their "friends" that they meet up with at shows and had a wonderful time!
But anyway, we got 1st in both junior dog and junior bitch with our two young pugs. This was their first time up in Junior as they are only just out of Puppy and the bitch won the biggest class of the day (14 entries) so was very pleased with that! My basenji also won Reserve Best AVNSC, a shame we came up against a very well known and flashy maltese, but she went perfectly and thoroughly enjoyed her day which is the most important thing, very happy with our results.
